There are 3 basic methods to getting higher percentage shots in this league.

1. The East-West pass or the Royal Road: Force the goalie to move side to side and shoot before he gets set.
2. Traffic: Take away the goalie’s vision and get it to the net.
3. Rebounds: Second and third chances usually coming from generating traffic and getting pucks on net.

We try for #1 the most, but the pass or shot is too slow. We do not do #2 or #3 consistently enough.
Yes! Mix it up more. This team is so predictable and easy on the goalie. The Rangers look pretty and clearly have tons of skill. But that last mile…they don’t go there. Most of them, at least. I don’t think it’s because they can’t. It’s just that they don’t. At some point I think they will. I’m not pessimistic.

I’m kind of just over the line combos until Panarin is gone. The whole thing is an exercise in trying to get him going, and I just don’t think that’s going to happen. He’ll continue to be what he is no matter who he plays with, and it will continue to be ineffective when it matters.

I’m honestly glad that he won’t be playing with Chytil because I think that might actually be damaging to Fil’s performance.

What is this myth that Blais was integral to the Blues Cup win? Only Fabbri and Sanford played in fewer playoff games for them that postseason, and he scored two more points than Binnington!
He's undeniably been awful for us and wasn't anything special for the blues, but he did have a great showing in that postseason. He and Barbashev terrorized every opponent and he scored a couple clutch goals. Doesn't have to mean he was a good trade target, but it's unfair to the kid to say he didn't play a role in that championship.

He had 70 hits in 15 games and a CF of over 52%. I'll take that this postseason.

it really isn't that hard

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Vesey
Lafreniere-Trocheck-Kravtsov

just f***ing run this for 10 straight games and let the players get used to it
Id actually go full blender at this point just for fun cause no line has been great.
Laf-z-krav
Panarin-chytil-kakko
Kreider-troch-gaut/good
Vesey-les-good/gaut

What can it hurt at this point. What gg thinks is perfect is meh at best

I like the idea of someone like Stanley mainly because he would be a longer term piece here.

Would Winnipeg be looking at a late pick and maybe a depth young d-man? Say, Hajek?

Not going to happen. He probably won't be back to his best until next season, if ever.
This year? Probably not. But I think management is planning to hold onto him, and of the three (him, Brodz, Jake L), he’s most likely to bring something beyond what we see right now.

Almost perfect, I would swap Laf & Kreider because I think Laf was useless on that line when he just got a shot there again.

Bizarrely we have a hole at 1LW. Laffy really needs to wake up. Kreider is best on the 3rd line with Trochek, he has a tendency to be way too floaty or random with Zib on the top line - see the 2nd goal by Boston wth was that all about? Leave him to play with Zib on the PK they are perfect there.

He only scored one goal that postseason, so I don't know how he score "a couple clutch goals".

He was third from last in total TOI for the postseason, after only Fabbri and Sanford who were injured. Its not fair to Barbashev to equate he and Blais together- Barbashev played almost double the minutes Blais did.

But yeah, Blais played a role. He has a ring. He did more than MDZ for that ring, for sure. I've seen enough this season and I do not think he or his experience in that postseason will do anything for us at all.

Can we not just throw away prospects like Berard and BMB who possibly in the worst case scenario end up as in your face high motor 3rd/4th line players who could pot some and where the Rangers often overpay for in free agency.

Just once please.
I think there’s a big difference between this season and last. I hope Dru considers this when thinking about deadline moves.

Last year we actually beat most of the best teams in the regular season. Only the Hurricanes seemed to have our number. When the best opponents were on their A game we still managed to beat them on many nights.

I just don’t have that same confident feeling this year. Bruins game was a fine example. But there have been others.

I think Drury needs to be brutal in his evaluation of the team before the deadline this year. He cannot be throwing top prospects or first rounders away for a rental if he legit thinks this team isn’t feeling it. Teams who are rolling and merely add depth around the edges at the deadline do really well with it. Teams that seem to have a ceiling and aren’t consistently able to beat the top 5 teams in the league and try to add pieces in the hopes that those adds fundamentally shift the team and their confidence, those are the teams that pay too much future for a 2nd round exit. I think we are closer to the latter than the former. And I think we are relying way too heavily on our top players. It would be one thing if we had 2 lines going really well and you were relying on lines, but at the moment we are relying on individual players.

I am feeling strong Yandle trade vibes about this year’s deadline. I don’t think the team is showing nearly enough. I really don’t. I see potential. I see a bunch of high level talent. But I don’t see a team that’s playing so well as a group they’re legit contending this year. They are in the 2nd tier of the league. Maybe 3rd to be fair.

The vet core has not proven they are up to the challenge of winning a cup. Or even repeating last season. Need to be really careful about trading from a fairly thin farm system.

Can we just try:

Laff - Zib - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Kravstov
Kreider - Trochek- Vesey
Goodrow - Brodz - Gauthier

Plz

I would do this and use Trocheck’s line as the matchup line. Let the Zibanejad and Chytil lines try to create offense. You could also flip Vesey and Goodrow, but I don’t think it makes a big difference.

I wouldn't call the farm thin. I've mentioned that this is the tweener year with the next wave of prospects in juniors/Europe/etc.

It is totally possible this group is conserving energy and will show another level come post All Star Break. TBD.

It's going to be a dog fight for spots 2-5 in the Metro. You finish in the 5th, you play the Bruins in round 1. You're screwed.

It's a six team race for five playoffs spots. Islanders are the one treading water now but the Rangers really need to put another month together like mid-December to mid-January.
