Kreider - Zib - _________
Panarin - Tro - _________
Kids
Combo of Vesey/Goodrow/Gauthier/others

This was the template a month ago, two weeks ago, yesterday, today, and CERTAINLY in the playoffs. Today's changes are just a steppingstone to the template. We will bring in reinforcements. In fact, Labanc/TyJo/Bonino or we riot.

If you are poopie pants over Gallant today it's a you problem.

I'm not poopy pants by any means but I do think that Kreider-Trochek-Gauthier should be a thing. The combo of size, speed and N-S mentality should (theoretically) keep teams hemmed in their D zone and wear them out.

Its just useless to try to understand sometimes... I still don't know why the lines we started the season with were broken up in the first place.

Gallant has finally acknowledged that 10-16 isn’t working. That’s the first step.
Now he has to figure out what to do to replace that.

Ive been curious since the summer whether two units makes more sense with the personnel on this roster.

Kreider
Zibanejad - Chytil - Kakko
Fox

Trocheck
Panarin - Kravtsov - Lafreniere
Fox/Miller

Since the first unit was so good last year I figured it wasn't even worth mentioning, but as it stands, I'd be curious to see something like this tried.

You know GG won't give the kids 2nd line minutes.

i think the goal is the top 3 lines all play roughly the same mins but obviously special teams won't allow for that.

i dont have an issue with icing this lineup - the panarin-trocheck combo has been a disaster defensively. if you break that up its either swap chytil and troch or bump panarin up and reunite the kid line. gallant going back to the kid line regularly isn't some demotion in his eyes....he genuinely likes what that line can bring together and it gives him at least 1 line he knows what hes getting most nights. had he gone the other way and basically swapped chytil and troch i'd be ok giving that a look too.

but again, bottom line has much less to do with the lines and much more to do with the lack of guys who are skilled all of: shooting, receiving passes and shooting, finding pucks and getting shots off in traffic, hitting open nets, hitting empty nets - when it comes to scoring. beyond that despite showing flashes of competence earlier in the year, once again no matter who plays together, no lines can generate offense deliberately in any way ie no coordinated motion to find a look we want when carrying into the zone and no chemistry/movement with possession in zone that creates shots / forces teams out of their structure. everything about the puck movement is so slow no team is ever threatened with getting opened up - hence 98% of the stupid cross ice passes we make never have a prayer. thats on players for apparently never working on skill, being too dumb to coordinate how they want to create offense, and too slow with both their hands and brains in how they move the puck and shoot it. you could bring in the greatest coach of all time and the only thing he might be able to help with is some of the in zone offense...and i stress might. doesn't matter what you plan, if you dont have the hockey iq to read off teammates and adjust positioning of any set looks every shift...you cant be helped. but nhl coaches dont teach you how to shoot/receive passes and they dont teach you how to take teams on when entering the zone w/ possession as a unit

I thought he "acknowledged" that 45 days ago when he split them up the first time.

He just keeps seesawing back and forth between the same ideas that don't work, acting like he's reinventing the wheel each time.

Enough with the kid line already. This is dinosaur thinking, and it was cute in the playoffs when you had more scoring depth and they generally played well, but this is generally an energy line strategy. These are first round picks who are expected to shoulder the offensive load someday, and you keep running them out there in a depth role where they can have a cute shift, maybe "swing the momentum" and pick whatever dinosaur hockey mantras you want to come up with, but generally not carry a significant piece of the offensive load Maybe we can put them on the ice after an opponent's goal to re-establish our forecheck!

This is 1990s thinking, and it's stupid, and it's actively impeding the kids' growth. At this point they should be turning into men on the ice and growing up before our very eyes (as Chytil is) not forced to play a gimmicky sideshow role on the third line.

This is absolutely asinine, and if these are the actual lines on Monday, I hope they lose 7-1. The 1 only being so that I don't waste 2 1/2 hours of my life to not see anyone score, and I hope the one goal is Laf from Chytil and Kakko.

Should be Blais instead
Meh. RIGHT NOW, none of these guys (Brodz, Jake L, Blais) is any sort of difference maker. This is an inconsequential move. Brodz is most likely to clear. Blais is most likely, of the three, both to get claimed and to bring back an asset in a trade. And the most Likely one to be able to take a step up, when he’s finished healing, as he contributed to St Louis Cup run. He’s the only one to have ever been a difference maker, and has the best chance to be one in the future. Bitterness over the fact that he was one of three things we gained in the Buch trade, and the only tangible thing left, seems the reason for the bias in this case.

If they're gonna do Panarin/Mika please give them the actual games to get some chemistry together. I feel like whenever they get put together it only lasts a game or two because it's blasphemous to have two top line players playing together.

New York Rangers

Depth: Recent short-term injuries to Chris Kreider and Julien Gauthiershowed the Rangers forward group can’t really absorb any hits to the top 12, whether on the top line (Kreider) or the fourth line (Gauthier). Ben Harpur was an AHL tryout who’s been solid as the third-pair left defenseman but there isn’t much the Rangers can rely on behind him. — Arthur Staple

If Vince is not enamored with the lines, he should bring it up in the press conferences instead of stuttering and being indirect about a question on if Gallant likes Laf. Speak up bud, mention the Kreider-Tro-Vesey line. Mention Chytil centering Panarin which is the only combo that hasn't been tried for a good amount of time. We can't get to the team, but the beat writers can. There was a time when they helped relay the frustrations of the fan base and not just asked pointless questions about if the coach likes a players game.

They have to be careful. They depend on goodwill from the coaches. Too antagonist and they end up on the outskirts without any relationship and it dries up the sources and real comments they need

Rangers will win Monday, and Gallant will be looking like a hero, or they will lose and there will be several Lyft and Uber pick up requests for Gerard at the Garden.

What is this myth that Blais was integral to the Blues Cup win? Only Fabbri and Sanford played in fewer playoff games for them that postseason, and he scored two more points than Binnington!

This is NY, Press and everything is different here. If you cant handle the media you shouldnt be in NY. Plus you dont have to be careful, is it not the job of a reporter to ask the real questions and not some bullshit fluff?

Hahaha. I didn’t say he was in consideration for the Conn Smythe. What is this myth that he didn’t contribute? He definitely did by most all accounts of anyone who watched their run. I am comparing him to Brodz and Jake. What have either of them done? He’s got the best chance to actually be something. People are making way more of this than is warranted.

In the past he's pressed on it, all that's done is prompt snide comments from GG when answering questions about lines during better times, and smug responses like "I didn't like what I saw" or "coach's decision" in the moment.

Disagree with Staple at least when it comes to forwards. I mean Brodzinski has been a pretty capable 4th liner when he was in the lineup. Blais looks like will be scratched when Gauthiere is back. Blais and Brodzinski as 13/14 is not bad.

The problem is more specific about 2RW. Outside of a handful games Kravtsov has been mostly ineffective (putting it mildly). Lafreniere’s struggled pretty much just as badly. Everything else stems from this. Even ineffectiveness of Panarin - Trocheck duo is fixable in a number of ways.

I would imagine most of the reporters understand the importance of being diplomatic. Then again I don't run in those circles. But I'm sure they would know to phrase things like "Do you think giving Panarin a look with [insert player] might happen?" as opposed to "These lines suck, what gives?"

Vally's been bangin on about shooting for rebounds for a while now.
Also, lately he specifiacally addressed the issue of big volume of shots but not enough of them being high quality.
He even expressed an opinion that we struggle when we take too many and the efficacy is low.
That’s great and reassuring. Vally needs to have a bigger role with the team, I’d say. His analytics sounds spot on. I hope the team is listening.
