Can Lafreniere unlock himself? I dont see how Gallant has anything to do with his issues. If anything he's giving him preferential treatment with minutes he hasnt deserved. The rest of the young forwards have shown lots of progress this season. Lafreniere is simply a year (and a summer of serious conditioning) away from looking how Kakko/Chytil do now if history is any indication
Yea I think he’s been given more than he’s deserved recently, especially if there’s a conditioning issue (which seems highly likely given his regression after a deep PO run). It’s just extra noticeable when you aren’t given sheltered mins, aren’t racking up easy pts on a top PP unit and on a team that is looking to win vs a bottom feeder.

If he doesn’t turn it around in the second half, then they need to really challenge him this summer. Maybe give him a 1y deal as extra motivation. How he responds to that challenge in the usually pivotal 4th season for young players will be extremely telling.

Kreider Zibs Kakko
Panarin Chytil Kravtsov
Laffy Trocheck Labanc
Goodrow Brodz Gauthier

Chychrun Fox
KAM Schneider
Lindgren Trouba

Elliotte believes Horvat will be traded to Minnesota as a rental.

However, Guerin spoke to the media a few days ago. He isn’t a big rental guy. Vancouver will want a substantial deal for Horvat. Minnesota has the young assets but will Minnesota trade them for a rental they can't afford to keep?

Elliotte believes the Bruins will sign Horvat after paying Pastrnak. How? Boston couldn’t move a player to open up space this season. They assigned Mike Rellly and his $3M to the AHL. They have rotating players on long term IR this season.

Do these guys know what is going on?

They ignore the cap realities because if they didn't, they'd have nothing to write about.

dumbfounded.

How is Trouba on the PP unit still? Over freaking Kravtsov.

If you told me it was to troll @EdJovanovski, I'd believe you.... because that's the only way it makes any sense

Gonna say because Gallant intends to use them for :15-:20 secs and wants two Dmen out there once the PP is over

He knows they won't score

Edit: @Mac n Gs beat me to the explanation :thumbu:

Pretty obvious to anyone paying attention that the Canuckles are going to bungle this Horvat trade like they did with JTM. Apparently they asked for Necas from Carolina lol. Rutherford will be lucky to get a first for Horvat imo. Pettersson and Hughes are going to request trades in the near future.

Rutherford talked about possibly buying out players if they can't trade some of their players.

Garland doesn't have a crazy buyout. $838,889 cap hit for the first two seasons. $1,838,889 in year three. $1,888,889 in years 4-6.

The rest of them are not worth buying out.

I can 100% see a situation like the Islanders trading Vanek at the deadline in 2014 where they hold out trying to get more from someone but then people move on and fill their needs elsewhere and Vancouver ends up trading him for pennies on the dollar.

If they buy out Garland, the Rangers should sign him yesterday.

You want to win? Then stop trying to win and start trying to develop Lafreniere.

And, if Lafreniere "develops" into nothing special, despite spoon feeding him ice time and PP minutes that he doesn't deserve than you've:

A. Pissed off Kakko
B. Pissed off Chytil
C. Pissed off Trochek
D. Pissed off Kravtsov
E. Wasted who knows how much of the window of everyone on the team to win now - including the young guys (Fox, Miller, Shesterkin, etc...)
F. Possibly wasted a year of your Vezina goalie that you might not be able to sign after next season
G. Pissed off your owner
H. Put one player ahead of the entire team

for the sake of a (up to now) marginal NHL'er who is lost between his ears

Garland is a feisty fun player who is badly overpaid. $3-3.25 MM is the right number. They will at some point probably trade him with retention.

Meier really intrigues me. I love the opportunity to add a top end player in his age sweet spot. Similar to Chychrun in that regard. The price will be very high and the off-season path is either another trade out or moving a veteran contract but the short term reward is tantalizing. Would take a big set of cahones by Drury.
