Speculation: Roster Building Thread II (2022-23): The Puck is Prepared to be Mounted

Zibanejad, Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, Trocheck, Chytil are legit top 6 F.

Lafreniere, Kravtsov, Goodrow are legit top 9 F.

The Rangers don’t “need” a top 6 F, but it would definitely make them a much deeper team considering Chytil or Trocheck are inevitably on the 3rd line. Pushing Goodrow to 4th line with a top 6 F addition and pushing Blais out of the lineup with a bottom 6 F addition makes this team insanely tough come playoffs, if healthy.

I would try to add Barbashev from StL like some have suggested, but I’d be fine just being Motte back and running Motte-Goodrow-Vesey as a 4th line with Blais mixing in here and there against physical teams.

Add a top 6 RW and run something like
KZK
Panarin Chytil X
Laf Trocheck Kravtsov as a top 9

Top 6 RW for a 2nd/b prospect
Bottom 6 F for a round 4-7 pick
6D for a round 3-6 pick

Try to hold all 2023 picks. Keep it moving

I think we need to be realistic with where the Rangers are as a franchise when we talk about having not 1 but 2 firsts. We are fighting for home ice with the Devils. I think it’s likely one gets moved.

I can definitely see that- I just wouldn’t personally do it. If it were conditioned on winning a cup, and the player was of a caliber to make it worth it, sure. Knowing tbis franchise, I wouldn’t be shocked. I do think it’s a buyers market though, and Drury has shown a tendency to be careful last year. Despite the crying from some fans, he was very picky and imo won each deal.

Yeah I trust Drury to make the right moves at the deadline. He knew the style of players the Rangers needed last year. I think he’ll be active again and if he moves a first hopefully it’s for a non-rental

Starting to think we will look back on this window as a MASSIVE what-if….

If our prospects/young players fully pan out, their arrival/upswing will coincide with our veterans experiencing steep decline. The timing is all off. Kakko and Laf not being instant contributors really screwed us

None of these lines are perfect. I don’t like anyone with Panarin, save for Chytil. But then Kravtsov needs to be on a diff line because I don’t love forcing him to be defensive forward with Bread and Fil. Goody has low key good chemistry with Fil and can be the defensive forward.

Kreider likely belongs on line 1 with KK and Zib but Laffy really doesn’t belong anywhere once you remove him from line 1. So instead, trying out VK with CK and Tro.

It’s kind of a mess because 2 of 3 top LWs aren’t meshing with anyone. So all the line combos become impossible to sort out.

Panarin's shortcomings are hurting the Rangers more than Lafreniere. The Rangers need to send Panarin to the eye doctor to check his eyesight. Panarin must lead the league in missing the net.

The Rangers aren't getting their money's worth with Panarin.

Actually, the craziest thought… truly insane. But…

Second line:

Goody- Laf - Panarin

Make Laf the center and play him with Panarin. Give them Goody for D zone draws and the dirty work.

It’s nuts but the minute you put the two guys together who don’t nec fit with other players, and put Laffy in a place where he has to mesh with creative Panarin, he might actually thrive. Like I don’t like any of the Kids on Panarin’s wing but I don’t hate it as much when they’re the center.

I’m well aware that Laffy’s deficiencies could make this line a disaster in their own zone but maybe not…

Ok Galaxy Brain session over. But I mean, nothing else is working with Panarin. And nothing is working for Laffy. At the very least you could get all other lines cooking if you put them together. But instead of Laffy on off wing, you’d have have laffy cutting through the middle.

Gauthier on IR is a bigger problem. Carpenter was added because the Rangers had 12 healthy forwards and they had a few forwards dealing with a stomach bug. Carpenter will go back today. Kreider should be back for Boston.

Gauthier seems to have been injured. The Rangers accrued space dropped by $2M with the Rangers adding a 14th forward on the roster and Gauthier placed on IR for the roster spot. He has not skated since the injury. Gauthier took a big hit. Concussion? He looked woozy. He cheekbone looked swollen. He had a cut on his face.

Which rental is worth a first round pick if the conditions are met? How do you measure the contributions of that player to the Rangers reaching the ECF if that is one of the conditions?
 
Chytil quietly surpasses his career high in points.

And who would've predicted, after 45 games, that Barclay Goodrow would have more points than either Kakko or Lafreniere?

I hope they keep their 1sts but i also hope they get some help, a more under the radar deal for a forward with some scoring ability and a Dman that hopefully could play both sides, because we all want a LD but our right side is much worse if we have an injury. Atleast we have Jones, Hajek, Robertson on the left, dont know who we have on the right, Hajek switching sides??
