Is it possible that the vets are struggling at ES because their options for linemates are bottom-six journeymen or kids who can’t finish. The Rangers do not have a complete first or second line.
Sure. Or maybe the kids aren’t scoring because the vets are struggling at 5v5. Hard to say, right? Hahaha. But who would you normally look to to be more responsible, kids, journeymen, or vets?

Good thing we don't have to worry about that.
Hahaha. Genuine laugh.

That's insane...

More and more teams are doing this to create cap space down the line. They are taking the outsized cap hit now (relative to production) and gambling that in 3 years, the player's production will exceed the cap hit. Look at the contracts to Thompson, Hughes, and Suzuki. These teams think that in a few years, they will be contenders and have their 1C locked in at a bargain cap hit. It's not a bad move if you identify the right player and have the cap space for it. But we never seem to have the cap space to make this kind of move.

I'm not sure - it's a cap league and it feels like everyone's running the same kind of mishmosh we are. Zibanejad and Kreider aren't scoring a ton, but they're matching up against other teams' top forwards and a lot of those guys are just going to be better than them. I don't think Trocheck and Panarin play well together, and they shouldn't have signed Trocheck if their only plan was to play him with Panarin.

But yeah, if we keep getting nothing out of those other spots management is going to make a big trade for a top 6 winger, and it might still be Patrick Kane

Fair point. But still, less than 90 games, 7x7…

Kaprizov did pretty well with Hartman as his center last year, no? Just one example of many, but I don't think you should be paying individual forwards 8-12million a year if they can't produce without two other guys at the same pay range on a line with them. Zibanejad has played more with Kreider than anyone (once again) this year, and has spent approx 70-75% of his 5v5 ice time with one of Kreider or Panarin (and approx another 10% with both of them).

Alternatively, Chytil doesn't seem to have trouble producing no matter who he plays with this year.

Good thing we don't have to worry about that.
We do though. Chytil and Kandre are playing themselves into huge raises at the same time.

Honestly, these are the kinds of contracts that are the reason teams are just f***ed with the cap. Yeah, Boldy has had a great start to his career but he's a second year player and now this is going to be used as a comp for however many other players. On top of that, how many UFA years does this chew up? 2? It's an enormous contract for what could've been a cost controlled player for years. You'd think this could've gotten done for a MUCH lower number.

Yeah, I know. It was a good line though, eh?

KAM, if not bridged (and that's a shitty risk), is going to cost A LOT of money. Chytil, too, with any kind of term.
There's a good chance he does get bridged. That's just how it's gonna have to be with a flat cap and the Rangers having all that money tied up.

Anyone else voting Miller and Fox into All-star weekend?

Would 7 mil 8 years be good for Miller and the Rangers, or is he worth more than that?

Canucks President Jim Rutherford had a press conference earlier this afternoon. Says, basically, they're screwed when it comes to re-signing Horvat. They just finished a road trip in which they went 1-5 (only win yesterday vs CAR in a shootout). Ekman-Larsson, big cap hit, was a healthy scratch for a game last week, has been awful. Rumours about Rick Tocchet being hired to replace Bruce Boudreau as head coach. That organization is a dumpster fire.

That’s really throwing the player under the bus. Mickey Mouse organization.

We haven’t scored a 5v5 since the Kreider injury. Gallant’s hands are tied with the lack of depth but he needs to get Chytil & Kakko more minutes with Panarin & Fox whether at ES or on the power play. Laf & Krav in the top 6 is helping no one right now

Kreider-Mika-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Krav(until we add a needed upgrade
Laf-Trocheck-Goodrow

Figured out the 4th line with the leftovers and cheap depth at the deadline

That’s such a joke of a quote, he should get his money, and in the process get to sign with a team that isn’t a dumpster fire. Sounds like a win win for him.
