Im ready to move on from lafreniere - trade him in the offseason for a 1st+ or see if Arizona would take him in a package for Chych @ 50%

then pray Othmann can develop into at least 2LW

Have to agree, I said it when they drafted Laffy the Rangers should have traded down and acquired additional draft capital.

Laffy is not a center which is/was our greatest need, but I guess JG couldn't pass up Laffy 1OA.

If Arz would take that deal, it's a no brainer, and then Othmann hopefully comes in next year and replaces Laffy as the number 2LW. Chych will replace the few points plus strengthen our defense.

Another potential trading option is Vancouver I would love to get Garland as many have said, Garland, Podkolzin and a 1st for Laffy, Jones, Blais--I don't want Horvat expiring contract. or Bosner. Don't believe Van will trade Pettersson nor can I figure out a way of fitting him under the cap, even if somehow Van took Goodrow.

Garland can play either C-RW.
Pod well just banking on potential.
1st gives us 3 this next and Vancouvers pick will be high. Or better yet if they won't trade this year's pick get 2024 first so we have 2 picks this year and next.

Anyway, some will say no way and we should get more for Laffy but I one way or another Laffy's time in NY looks to be running out I hope I'm wrong.

No one could have passed on Lafreniere, he was a very high end talent, the Rangers have just mismanaged him like they've mismanaged Kakko, Kravtsov and Andersson.

But they should have been more aggressive in trading up for Lundell, who they loved.
This right here, they haven't produced a top 6 forward since Kreider arrived, and he was as nhl ready as anyone. All the young forwards have struggled to get to the point they should be, people say Kakko is finally playing well, sure he's better but he was drafted as a likely 30+ goal scorer, same with Lafreniere. The organization has to fix this before Othmann and Sykora arrive

Am I the only one who saw good things from Lafreniere in yesterday's game? Was he hesitant with the puck at times? Yes. But he had at least 3 grade-A scoring chances including 2 very good deflections.
I agree, he looked good in the first half of the game but like everyone else trailed off, not sure who all had or has the stomach bug but nobody looked particularly good yesterday outside of Shesty.

yeah I've been as hard on him as anyone but that was a weird game to really let him have it.......I thought he was fine.

i agree...he's been winning pucks and creating possession as well as getting to the front of the net and, as you mentioned, has had several nice deflections lately that he's gotten incredibly unlucky with. he had that puck in the crease with an empty net the goalie got with his paddle diving which...he just has to bury. he really can't buy one right now. also not 100% sure on this one but i believe it was him on a 2 on 1 with i think mika in the 2nd but i could have the players mixed up - so i think it was mika who - this is what i do remember - he took the shot and missed the net of course but it was actually probably one of the only 2 on 1s this season where the pass for a tap in was actually wide open.

these are more nuance plays though a lot of fans don't notice or appreciate and they absolutely have value. but the obvious ones that make everyone notice are the chances you create for yourself or create to set up teammates, and thats what he's still not generating any of. i'd love to see him peel off the wall and take someone on or just drive the net. he also hasn't gained the zone and done anything to create a decent look on a standard 3 on 2 or 3 on 3. he usually drifts outside which eliminates him as a threat and makes coverage easy rather than trying to beat a guy, using his linemates to isolate 1 dman in a small ice 2 on 1, maintaining his speed and dropping his shoulder and driving wide to get inside, or selling the net drive which would actually open up the ice for a real chance using his beloved drop pass. so definitely seeing some good things, but there's things he's shown he can do and should be looking for in other areas that he wastes. a lot of that is confidence and maybe some of these tips actually dropping brings some of it out, but would really like to see some progress there.

This is what happens when you look for any small deficiency in a guys game.

It's not to say he doesn't have them, he does.... but they're being magnified out of proportion

Please. Do not be reasonable. You’ll just confuse and anger them. Hahaha.

So it was a 2:1 but Mika is a righty, passing to Laf a lefty. The pass would have needed to be inside on Laf, which would be right into the defenders skates

ok wasn't entirely sure on that play, was on the other side of the ice, looked to me like the dman was up too high but that kinda play can be tough to gauge depth. from where i was sitting def looked like laf being a lefty gave mika an easy pass for laf to skate into going at the back post. i'd try to catch it on a replay but that game was about as entertaining as getting your fingernails ripped out

I’m pleased he’s starting to show high quality hand eye coordination again, which is one of the few elite skills he’s shown at the NHL level. The indecisiveness is clearly a major confidence issue, and it’s not going to be fun watching him work through it.

Panarin has all the confidence in the world throwing pucks off his backhand that lead to turnovers 6x a game. It’s an awful habit, but he’s very decisive while doing it. Laf (and Kravtsov) have none of that right now, so you just get a whole lot of nothing. Least Kakko is showing more confidence handling the puck.

Someone go watch Zegras and Stutzle play and watch how many bonehead plays they make. Difference is they have the confidence to keep trying. Also, their teams suck, no the downside is minimal.
