18. Ryan Reaves
Right Wing, New York Rangers
Age: 35|
Stats: 12 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 Pts
Contract: Pending UFA, $1.75 million AAV
Scoop: Reaves has been a healthy scratch in four of the Rangers’ last five games. The belief is New York isn’t looking for much in return to gain the salary cap flexibility. And there are more than just a couple teams (Edmonton?) looking for a little size and bite in their bottom-six forward group.

Getting his cap hit off the books would be huge

Everyone else, until they get here, make similar decisions and they too are dumb as f***.

Posters here are better suited to coach this team, don't ya know??
The REALLY sad part is that some posters stick out their chests and bellow like they truly do believe that.

What about claiming Wayne Simmonds? A guy who plays the game the right way and knows how to win. He'd be a solid upgrade on Reaves. Still brings that toughness but can chip in a goal here and there. Him and Gauthier on the fourth line together can be a dominant line that can punish the opposition with their strength.

He looked pretty ineffective from the 10-15 games or so I watched him play with Toronto but I guess 10-15 points a year is better than the 2-3 points Reaves gets us this year? IDK

always liked Simmonds, but he isnt as tough as he used to be. And honestly...knows how to win? He's never won anything with anyone.

retreads like him are not going to move the needle for us very much.

Sanford not good anymore I guess after decent stretch with the blues including the cup run

again, 6 even strength points. people say the kids' production would go up if they had more pp time or were on pp1 so we should accept that their production is lower bc it is only 5v5 production, this being the case then the same standard should be used on torcheck where as we cant just look at 13 points in 19 games as great production without understanding that more than half those points are pp points. you cannot use one standard to defend laffy and kakko's lack of production and then flip the standard 180 to defend torchek. that is known as a contradiction...

Demoting a 21-year old prospect for only having 7 points doesn't make much sense if it is in favour of a 30-year old veteran with 7 points.

If Goodrow had 15 points, sure. If Vesey clearly make that line better, I'm all for it. But that's not the case.

That's my biggest gripe with all this.

I'd claim Sanford. Better than Reaves and Simmonds. Sanford is a numbers game with the emergence of a couple of young guys on the Preds. Trade Reaves or waive Carp. Hell, trade Reaves and waive Carp and claim both. Haha

Simmonds is cooked at the NHL level. 4th liner at best and not a good one. 16 points last season and only managed to get into 4 games so far this season.

You've gone too far this time

I don't know. Are we going to pretend that Chytil is an elite 5v5 scorer and Zibanejad is a bad one because Chytil has a 10.5 on ice shooting percentage and Zibanejad 4.4?

I don't understand the complaint regardless. Lafreniere is 2nd on the team in 5v5 ice time. Kakko is 4th. Do you want them to get Connor McDavid 5v5 usage?

I thought people wanted "The Kid Line." Now that "The Kid Line" is back the complaint shifts to that they're not in the top six. Predictable as can be.
The record will show I have always been anti- Kid line

Laf Zib Kakko
Panarin Trocheck Kravstov
Kreider Chytil Goodrow
Blais Carp Vesey

Kreider will still get plenty of time via PP/PK

Because production matters as well.

I want my #1 & #2 OA picks playing well AND producing.

Not giving either (both) significant PP time is probably the biggest mistake this Org has made in terms of their development.

Offensive players need to be put in Offensive situations in order to develop their offensive game.

Not us. Bury em and then justify the burying by bringing up their lack of production.

This is so stupid but here we are. Did you see Mollie Walker's @MollieeWalkerr interview with Turk? Can you be more mealymouthed?

"#NYR coach Gerard Gallant on when he wants to get Vitali Kravtsov back in: “He’s been ready the last couple. I have an idea, but I don’t know when. I liked the way our team played the last game…It might be the same lineup. I’ve got no problem with the way Kravy has been this year. He’s worked hard and all that. He’s had some unfortunate luck. Right now, it’s about our team and I liked the way our teams played right now. We’ll see when it’s gonna happen, but it’s gonna happen. He’s going to play. We want to give him every opportunity.

So far, he’s worked hard. He’s been a good, character person. He’s done everything we’ve asked. Just a matter of getting into the game… It’ll happen sooner than later, but we’ll see. (3/3)"

I mean Laf is more of a pure playmaker than a finisher, but they have conditioned him to just sit in the front of the net when he plays w Panarin. He should be in that left bumper position. That’s why him as a rw is tough.
Kakko was told to do the same thing when on Panarin's line. But "opportunity" I guess. This club works at crosspurposes with itself.

Definitely don't understand breaking up Zibanejad and Kreider at 5v5 right now. That line is productive, but just not putting the puck in the net. That is the end goal, but I'd bank on it turning around before it goes sour. Just go back to Kakko on that line. Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko.

The real thing is the Panarin-Trocheck combo needing to get it together at 5v5. Those two with Lafreniere, great possession and chances, but the actual success was low (7GF 10GA). Kravtsov barely got a shot there, but those metrics were not good at all. I'd like to go back to this as well, since the outcome doesn't match the expectations. Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere.

Where I would experiment is with a combo of Chytil and Vesey. Small sample, but it has done well. This is where I think you could try Kravtsov on a line. Vesey is more of the defensive minded player, Kravtsov gets someone that is a willing shooter on his line. Fil and Vesey are pretty good in the corners too, so he doesn't need to be relied upon to fill that role. He can be more finesse and more of distributor. Kravtsov-Chytil-Vesey

The 4th line is easy. Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier. Carpenter is the spare and should replace Blais if they want someone they can rely to be on the PK or as an extra center.

Does anyone have the stats from a couple/3 ? seasons back when we had BOTH Tony D and Fox running our offense ? It would be interesting to see if the 2nd offensive Dman had any influence on our scoring numbers...can our stats dept source that out ? One thing about Tony despite his faults....he could lug the puck and make a hard solid pass .
