does drury trade roster players away in a year dolan needs the playoffs for a broken player or someone that will need to be out for 30 games?

chytils not a good skater?

he’s a center a shoot first center (Mika was and is still to this day) but he’s a center.

what he’s not is any good defensively or any good at face offs. How much Covid and the hand hurt him is anyone’s guess but he was probably our best center before he got hurt.

this kid needs to be on a scoring line he’s 21 he should be playing with some veteran players. Asking him to be a 3C next to teenagers and be good defensively and somehow score more than 50 pts with the mins he gets makes zero sense to me

Whether it makes sense or not is subjective but what you’re absolutely right is that his production has been remarkable in these circumstances. Chytil is 1C material no doubt. Unfortunately the Rangers have Dolan for the owner and it’s quite possible he’s going to grow into this roles in the next few years elsewhere and then will haunt the Rangers for a decade after that.

Something stinks here and all signs point to both Sather AND Drury.

If there really was an issue with the "culture" and Drury has been around long enough to have been an integral part of building that culture, how is it that when the dust settles JG and JD are gone and CD gets both spots with that overrated POS Sather consulting.

Sather has to be the most overrated front office guy the NHL has ever seen.
I wish I could like this more than once. No truer words have ever been posted on hfboards.

I think we should move on Eichel. I've gone back and forth on whether we should do this, or wait and see about Barkov, but here's what it comes down to for me...

-The neck surgery isn't as bad as it sounds. Players across all sports have an 80% full recovery rate from this particular surgery, and I believe it's higher for hockey (there's a study I'm too lazy to find again, but I've been reading a lot about this). If he elects to get the surgery now, odds are he'll be ready to be on the ice, fully recovered, by October/November. Worst case scenario, he misses a month of the season.

-Eichel's contract is fine. If the choice is between him, and going after Barkov, then from a cap perspective Eichel is the wiser choice. Or do you not think Barkov will command $11m-$12m+ as a UFA? He's at the very least getting the same deal as Eichel, who is also a full year younger than Barkov.

-Given the injury, the possibility of a trade request, and the potential for Barkov to be available, Eichel's trade value will significantly decrease. Potentially, it will cost equal or less to obtain Eichel this summer than Barkov next Feb. And to be honest, if Florida makes a deep run (or wins) this playoffs and/or continues their success into next season, I don't see them trading Barkov at the deadline, nor do I see Barkov signing anywhere else. Why would he? And Florida has the money to overpay him.

-Eichel's not gritty? Who cares? Are Marner and Tavares gritty? Drai and McD? How gritty are Crosby and Malkin? Talent wins down the middle in this league and Eichel is arguably a Top 5-10 Center when healthy, or has the potential to be. We can and will acquire grit throughout the lineup. Morgan Barron is your grit 4th line C, just trade out Chytil for a 3rd line C who can win faceoffs and bang. It's easier to do than to find a version of Eichel with grit.

Bottom line, we HAVE to be in the market for a top tier center, there will not be an opportunity to pick up someone as young and good as Eichel besides possibly Barkov, and I've explained why waiting on Barkov might not be worth it.

If there is chance to ice an Eichel/Zib 1-2 punch down the middle, and the cost is reasonable (it will be), we have to do it.
Marner and Tavares aren’t - their team also hasn’t come close to winning a thing of value despite a ridiculous collection of talent including Matthews who is better than both of them.

McD and Drai aren’t really, but again, haven’t come close to winning yet and McDavid is head and shoulders the best player in the world, Eichel isn’t even comparable to him.

Crosby and Malkin and both pretty gritty for big time skill players. Crosby especially is excellent in the dirty areas and is pretty chippy when it’s called for.

Imo it doesn’t matter if it’s at center or not but you need grit in the team to wear other teams down and to make it a chore to win against you. If we spend a lot on Eichel, it’s less to spend on assets that give the team sometbing it lacks. Eichel is a younger version of what we have already in Mika. The age difference is valuable but probabaly not at what the cost will be, and a 20% chance of getting him worse after surgery is not good.

You may be joking a bit, but you're not wrong. Eichel isn't Sidney Crosby, he doesn't play with an edge at all.
I think they’re just fundamentally different, and I’m not sure I’d say Eichel doesn’t play with an edge. There’s been games where he’s just straight up dominant and an absolute beast against the other team, but he does it differently than Crosby who trained so hard to be the best player in the world, maybe ever, managing the puck in tight spaces.

Regardless, whatever edge is or isn’t there is gonna be tough to gauge moving forward if he gets this neck surgery. It’s possible that he’s just not the same player after it, which is why I’m not wasting my time taking that chance.

Eichel + 5 million RETAINED by Buffalo for Chytil, Howden, Kreider and like, whatever scraps you want. Eichel sits out the entire year and comes back 2022-2023 when we are ready to roll

Jeez, if I were Eichel I'd think there's a conspiracy to end my career.

It's just politics. Eichel is raising a stink because he wants out. Time to bring that show to the NYR.

I don't think I've ever seen a player not wear at least one piece of team gear at a press conference (unless they were wearing a suit).

I think someone else did this the last year or two, but I can't remember who or if it was even hockey. Oh wait now that I think of it I think it was Gerrit Cole after his last game as an Astro. He was wearing a Boras Corp (his agent) hat. People rightfully assumed he was a goner.

That’s a phenomenal contract for Lindgren, and he was the perfect candidate for a bridge deal.
