Wow, so they stopped him from having the surgery?
I get that they want to have their say on their highest salary employee on certain things. And I don't think it's entirely wrong. But Why the F would they wait on this issue? Should've rushed him to surgery immediately after they announced he's out long term, get the injury fixed, and give him the most available time to make a recovery. This kind of stuff doesn't exactly add to his value either, if Buffalo is thinking that we'll let his future team to deal with it (if they are dealing him).

I have no idea if what Eichel is saying about the Sabres blocking him getting surgery is true, but I’m trying to figure out the benefit of barring him from getting said surgery.

like if you take that front office at its word and they have no intentions of trading Eichel, then why delay the surgery so he can be ready for next season?

or maybe the GM is being petty because he knows they have to trade Eichel and blocking his surgery means Eichel may not be ready for next season with his new team

who knows but what an odd situation

Clusterf***. Stay away. People think Nash underachieved? Wait till we give up more and get back less for Jackie

combined with the last Vogl tweet above, it sounds like management knows the time to trade Eichel is now, long before his NMC kicks in, during the off season when they can move a $10M contract so they are refusing him the option for surgery if the recovery time is as severe as you mentioned.
They’re acting as if they let their medical insurance lapse, even from an asset perspective they should have let him do it early in the season and protect his value. They obviously don’t have an owner whisperer like Sather

What about something simple for the Oilers/Rangers? Something like:

Khaira for Hajek/Reunanen

Gives the Oilers a young, cheap depth d-man. Gives the Rangers a 4th liner who plays a heavy game. Similar ages.

Or the Wild, as they will more than likely lose Dumba. Hartman for one of the Rangers young d-men and say Howden?

The sabres don’t want to rebuild again though they want nhl players.

after the year Strome and Buchnevich just had I’d have to think they’d both be part of the offer to Buffalo along with a first round pick in 2021 which is the year to trade it.

And wouldn’t be surprised if Jones is part of that too

Strome, with one year left on his contract and little to no chance of signing in Buffalo, has little value to the Sabres. He might be included as a throw in to clear some cap space and a center spot in the lineup, but I don't think he would be a main piece in any potential Eichel deal.

We know LA has the perfect assets for an Eichel trade..but what about Boston? They have Krejci coming off the books, Bergeron is 35 and eventually needs to start slowing down.

I'm just trying to find hope for someone else to swoop in so we don't make a mistake.

Boston can’t do it at current prices but of Buffalo accepts the asset depreciation they could do it. LA is gonna hard pass

If we’re being honest Eichel is a Dolan move if I’ve ever seen one.

Assuming the price isn’t outrageous I very much expect us to be in on that, injury or not.

Hell I think with Dolan and Sather involved it’s possible the team is willing to move more assets that previous for Eichel

Actually, with this injury, another year older and off his contract, more discontent, Drury needs to lower the offer Gorton made last summer.
A neck injury should seriously lower his value. If not, let someone else take that risk.

With all the NHL-ready guys we have with expiring contracts, I feel like it could be a three-way deal if it's us.
I do think that is more likely than it seems. We don't line up perfectly with Buffalo, unless they would like Strome/Zib for some reason. There could still be a deal without a third team being necessary, but sending one of them to another team and then adding those assets on top of what the Rangers offer seems like it could be the best option

You think Howden and Hajek have value. How quaint.
