Kakko's camp would be foolish to accept an extension before he has one decent offensive season.
you would be paying for the 'expected' breakout. 5-6 years for $4ish M. Overpay for the immediate but get the value down the line

It's low risk for Kakko and good security
It's riskier for the org but the potential value is high, when we're competing for the duration of his contract

but I can see a lot of players taking 3 years to ride out the flat cap

Yeah, if he has to go the fusion route chances are he’ll lose some head swivel mobility. Not great for a center.
Analytics say Howdens head swivel is off the charts.

But that's from looking up and down the bench at his teammates thinking " How can I be this bad and still be an everyday NHL player?"

Then his head "swivels" towards the coach and he smiles.

Any guesses on when we'll hear about Quinn's status? I guess no news is good news for those in the pro-Quinn camp.

Not until they have someone they want ready to sign.

No reason to drop (and pay out) Quinn until they see who his replacement is.

Here's the thing.

We know what Sather can/will do.

We dont know what Dolan will do as he was only installed as head honcho in 1999.

So its not like he has a track record of incompetence with the NYR the way Sather does

Dolan -- 1999.
Sather -- 2000.

Not sure what you're trying to say here.

With all the recent Jack Eichel injury related tweets, I expect Quinn will come back in the hopes that the Sabres and Rangers can work a trade for him.

Eichel’s movement clauses haven’t kicked in so Quinn as coach isn’t going to have any bearing on a trade.

Don't want Eichel. If Rangers get him, won't be happy. Don't need that BS.

Depending on price and injury status. I do want him. Especially thinking of the ramifications of signing Mika long term.

I'll take the stiff neck over Mika being one accidental ( or not) elbow from NHL oblivion.

That said i get ALL the reasons not to. This is NOT a hill I'm digging trenches on. For example. KK or LAF going back is a deal killer.

And put me in the camp of thinking Schneider is as an important a prospect as we have. Guys an absolute stud.

Rangers are going to have an insane amount of spare cap space for next season if no major trades occur.

Even assuming 6.5 for Buch, 6 for Stesty, 3 for Chytil, thats close to 10 million remaining while missing only 1-2 positions on the roster.

It's going to disappear the season after- when long term extensions for Fox (1 mil to probably 7-8), Zib (5.5 to possibly 9) , Strome, and possibly Kakko and Kravstov come up, but for next year they could really go nuts with 1 year contracts for veterans.

Paul Stastny, Jamie Oleksiak and Barclay Goodrow c'mon down!

The space as you said, will be there, but it will quickly get eaten up whether they sign their own guys, trade for others or decide to dip into UFA.

That said, I don't see any way that both Buch and Strome are both here next season. There are going to be pretty big changes made to this roster, for better or for worse.
