Step away from the ledge.

Nash comes off the books next year. Maybe you move Zucc. Worry about that next year.

Doing that is what leads to moving your #1 center for 60 cents on the dollar.

When this team was actually contending, worrying about things when you get there made sense. This team is no longer a contender, doing that would be very short sided and stupid.

How do you propose that the Rangers Add Shattenkirk, 2 more centers and have space to do anything but bridge Zibanejad?

He's not signing for pennies. Nieves is an option but hardly one you can count on and rushing someone like Andersson into the lineup because you need a body at the NHL level would be incredibly stupid.

Mind you, Skjei,Miller,Hayes and Vesey are all up for new contracts next year. Being able to fit in everyone for a season doesn't mean **** if you're going to have to rip apart the team in a year or 2.

relax relax

Nash, Klein, Holden all come off our cap next year

That's 14 million in space, Miller and Hayes probably each bump to around 5 (similar to CK deal) so then you have 10 left for Skjei and Vesey. That's plenty. Cap will probably rise slightly as well.

Don't worry

We'd be locked into 5D for at least three more years. Shattenkirk can either be at one extreme of the other while he's here in that, if he plays well he's untouchable. If he plays poorly, unmovabie. Like 5x Staal.

Bubble guys (or nearly so) in DeAngelo, Bereglazov, Pionk, Graves, Pedrie, will all be blocked but one... even if one or five outplay a vet, you can't just drop five guys with deals like we have. If we're smart, we'll extend Skjei ala Mac before this time next year. And Mac's first SPC.. 7M? 8?

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Staal-ELC

What, like 29M in five D... and AT LEAST one ELC that will be 4M+. We're not trading the best captain we've had since Messier.

As good as he is, is that what we want?

Amazing how quick we are to overrate players when they become ours. A prospect who will likely top-out at RNH's floor, and DeAngelo for RNH, and that's "Gross".

Kk.

Let's talk in December when DeAngelo is healthy-scratched because AV "doesn't trust him" in the d-zone.

Saying that Andersson will "likely top out at RNH's floor" is serious conjecture, and something we heavily disagree on. I do not like RNH as a player in the slightest. He is easily worse than Stepan, yet we're gonna give up the same value we got for Stepan, for RNH? Okay. I know you hated the Stepan trade, but this is ridiculous IMO.

Is the general consensus not that Andersson will be, at best, a 2nd line center in this league?

I believe you're overrating Andersson.

It's fine that you don't like RNH, but that doesn't change what he is :dunno:

Yeah I don't think I'd consider moving Andersson for RNH. I'm not a fan. Given that his is the last year of his contract I'd see if we could work something around Nash and RNH, but I think that's as far as I'd go.

The impression I've been getting is at best is a good 1C and a 2way 2C is pretty close to the floor of what he can become

The other belief is that European prospects, in general, are underrated, unless they are unequivocally a top 5 pick. This includes Russian players.

As of right now, I'd say you could project Andersson as someone who could be a 1B center. He'd be better paired with an explosive offensive 1B center.

The likely outcome is that he is an NHL player and find himself in a #2 role at some point, but I think he'd be undersold in that he couldn't become one of the top 31 centers in the league.

Probably not the most reliable source but...
Might as well throw this out here
Translates roughly to:
Reading that Vladimir Tkachev is going to a training camp with NYR. Here we speak top talent. Potential star player imo

Tkachyov cancelled his KHL deal a few days ago.
Unsure what else is going on

Aivis Kalnins wrote that he would re-sign with his KHL team on a better deal a few hours after he terminated his contract, haven't heard anything more since.

I mean they said Lindholm would be a second pairing guy and look how that turned out. He could also be a huge bust. That's the thing with prospects, you don't know what you have until they show you

I'm just meh on RNH and his $6M cap hit. Do you like his game?

Beat writer out of STL said he was looking to come to North America on an NHL deal the day he cancelled his KHL deal. Can't find the link

No, I'm not an RNH fan, and don't want him on this team at that AAV.

This whole conversation started because I think it'd be a weird off-season to make the Stepan move and then turn around and trade for RNH, who I like less than Stepan. Then I broke the cardinal rule of HF, and put actual value on it, and well, you can't trade players that other posters like because we overrate our own guys. Andersson is going to be a 1C, with shades of Zetterberg, and DeAngelo will be like Dan Boyle.

It's cool. I dug my own grave on this one, as I usually do.

Oh ok good, glad we agree on RNH. Didn't want to have to argue with you back and forth on it

I was all aboard the not trading Stepan train because I was looking at top 5 picks from the recent past and more of them than not either turn out to be arguably as good or just flat out worse than Stepan is. Right now I'm kind of confused with the teams direction because I have no idea if they want to get worse or better
