Ah boy other D stink so she's foreshadowing Shattenkirk

Can't ignore the cost to acquire RNH, though, that's the whole point :)

I'm not entirely certain what the Oilers are looking for, I'd imagine cost-controlled players all things considered with McDavid.

Surely dependent on what the cost for RNH is, obviously, but there is a cost.

Right, but the premise of the discussion is getting him for pennies on the dollar. If they want a premium then I'd tell them to take a hike.

I find acquiring RNH for pennies on the dollar to be much more optimistic than realistic.

But if it only costs what we traded Stepan for, then yeah, sign me up. I'd move Andersson and DeAngelo for RNH without blinking, to be honest.

Sure, but when has realism ever held a place here?

It's the cap space angle. The Rangers could get RNH cheaper, because the Oilers would have to clear space to accommodate the major contracts from McDavid and Draisaitl.

I'm still dreaming about a defense of
McD-Shatty
Skjei-Bereglazov
Smith-DeAngelo

Absolutely amazing

Much better than last year for sure.

But the same people crying for Shattenkirk are going to be *****ing when they have to bridge Zibanejad and inevitably trade him over the next 2 years because they can't afford him.

Thats assuming he even signs here, which pretty much all signs point to him not doing.

Never. But there are posters who are worth discussing reality with, and I'd like to think that you and I are such posters, so I'm just grounding the discussion a bit more, at least between you and I :)

Sure. But they can't really take cap space back, which makes the trade murky.

Best thing for a potential RNH trade is that Chiarelli is legitimately a terrible GM.

Why the hell would they have to bridge him?

How much is Zib going to get? And is it something we really cant afford?

Oh the panic around here...

Exactly. The idea is to use your cap space (in part created by Stepan getting traded) to wind up with more assets than you started out with.

They can afford both. If you give Ziba 5 million long term it's no problem. We have plenty of space, especially with Nash gone after next season.

RNH will require cost controlled assets.

I mean maybe Miller as a piece, but he's due for a healthy bump when McDavid/Drai are due.

And the NYR really need to be adding NHLers.

How do you propose that the Rangers Add Shattenkirk, 2 more centers and have space to do anything but bridge Zibanejad?

He's not signing for pennies. Nieves is an option but hardly one you can count on and rushing someone like Andersson into the lineup because you need a body at the NHL level would be incredibly stupid.

Mind you, Skjei,Miller,Hayes and Vesey are all up for new contracts next year. Being able to fit in everyone for a season doesn't mean **** if you're going to have to rip apart the team in a year or 2.

Amazing how quick we are to overrate players when they become ours. A prospect who will likely top-out at RNH's floor, and DeAngelo for RNH, and that's "Gross".

Kk.

Let's talk in December when DeAngelo is healthy-scratched because AV "doesn't trust him" in the d-zone.

Was coming in to post this. I am not really worried because Chiarelli will likely give him away for nothing.

Step away from the ledge.

Nash comes off the books next year. Maybe you move Zucc. Worry about that next year.

If you can find a way to move Staal even next year, that basically pays for the Shattenkirk contract almost by itself.

If he can rebound playing on the third pair this year, and we think we will be able to find a taker, that makes Shattenkirk a no-brainer.

Fair enough.

I think they'd want a cost controlled piece back. The Rangers have a few of those on the wings. Hayes could be an option if the team likes RNH/Zib better than Zib/Hayes as the top-six centers and feels confident in getting a more suitable 3C in a different way.

And yes, the Chiarelli angle works in our favor as well.
