Not just Bereglazov--DeAngelo is going to get every chance to make the team.

DeAngelo and Pionk are going to be fighting for the same ice time right now. The fact we have two promising, young RHD, when 3 months ago we had none is nice to see.

We need to draft one next year. Would be good actually have one at the lower levels of the system.

If they really re-sign Smith, I do not see them in on Shattenkirk, unless they go ahead with a Staal buyout. Zibanejad will be filing for arbitration. Will give us the 2nd buyout window.

If it is Staal or Smith, we need to sign Smith and buyout Staal. It is possible that we could move Staal to a team that missed the trade/UFA market, but I don't see it.

Someone will take him if our price is low enough. We could retain as well. The issue is getting him to waive

10/5 lineup

Kreider-Zibanejad-Nash
Miller-Hayes-Zuccarello
Vesey-Andersson-Buchnevich
Grabner-Hrivik/Nieves-Fast

McDonagh-Smith
Skeij-DeAngelo
Staal-Kampfer/Klein/UFA/Prospect

:D

Before additions it may not look good to folks on here, but that's still a playoff roster with a normal (.920) season from Henrik.

That really puts in perspective though that NYR need really only

1 top 4 Right Defenseman
1 3rd line center

to field a normal lineup. Does it look like an improvement on last season? Not at first glance but the expectation is that young guys like Skjei, DeAngelo, Vesey, Buchnevich will improve over time. We shall see.

I really do not understand long term expensive UFAs, where the player changed teams, in terms of those signings leading to happy stuff.

Hossa, Chara, there are some others, but on average these signing seem to at best only help some, and at worst they become contracts no team wants including the team who signed them.

Just seems like there are a lot more Backes, Eriksson, Phaneuf, Clarkson, Ladd, MacDonald, Clowe, Moulson etc, than there are happy stories.

Even when a team is re-signing the player, it's still dicey as we have seen first hand, but at least the happy rate seems a little higher.

According to Pierre Lebrunn, "Several teams have reached out to Brian Boyle so far, don't believe the Leafs have shown much interest yet. But still time obviously..."

You believe there is a chance Fast doesn't make it or it's a reflection of his injury?

He has fast penciled in on wing. Hrivik/Nieves battling for 4C

It has been reported a number of times that Hrivik is a UFA and the Rangers will not be resigning him. I guess that can always change, but doesn't sound like Rangers have interest.

Per Lebrunn:

Justin Williams camp in the process of narrowing a long list of callers into a smaller group. All about the fit and chance to win.

Whats wrong with a 1 or 2 year deal on 6m per? We get a #1 center and we can afford it.
A dozen yrs ago, 40/ish JThorn was 1C.
Now, not so much.
Do not want to invest in player, esp wheels that old, for even 1 yr, let alone 2.
We can do both better/younger.
Let us learn from the past.

That would be a great roster if we are trying to get the #1 overall pick.
As usual, we agree to disagree.
Would be a great roster. PERIOD.
Room for improvement, sure, but still lots of good players.

Also, Colorado would accept the McDonagh + Skjei deal in an instant. Gorton however would laugh if Sakic asked for that. I would too.
Colorado SHOULD; whether or not they would is another ?. They prob try to lose my demands for a 1st and 2nd over nxt 2 drafts, we say no, and they prob agree to the deal.

We SHOULD, but ONLY if you believe in the synergy of Kreider-MacK to more than offset Sid-Geno.

So you don't think so. Fine
I certainly make mistakes. BUT
I was right about Stepan, Skjei, Kreider, Miller
and will be proven right about Hayes

I stand by on my record of good judgment which you will criticize all you want. In the end, however, as was the case w/Stepan, I expect to be usually correct.

Players aren't stocks. They aren't currency.
They ARE, in addition to human beings, tradeable assets.
They ARE like a currency in that different attributes of players makes for not all players being swapped interchangeably, as if equal, not different.

I was willing to swap Stepan; I am more reluctant to use JT Miller in a deal.

I have explained this to you, but you continue to be contrarian despite the fact that the bold can not be denied.

Hopefully you will comprehend what I am saying this time, and I will not have to repeat myself, cause either you honestly do not grasp it, or ...:naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:.

They don't appreciate at AA's age, they depreciate and AA in two years will be worth less than he is now,
AA may/may not appreciate/depreciate w/in 2-r yrs, too many unknown variables to forecast, let alone predict w/high certainty.

That said, he
1. would be an immediate stop gap that fits w/young core
2. is someone we are not married to and can flip in 1-2 yrs if nec.

especially when he posts back to back horrible seasons because he has Ryan Gropp :biglaugh: as his winger.
I anticipate good things from Gropp to start, which MAY turn into big things.
Let's say for the record I am bullish on him, you are not, and give it a bit to see who is right over time.
ps - I like my odds on that one.

Now Shattenkirk can't skate?that is just fake news. Like absurd. Guy is a very good smooth skater. Comparing to Stepan? Stop
I think where the OP there was coming from, but was not clearly stated, is that the whole thick legs description means he gets speed a la Marty St. Louis type, as opposed to Niedermayer smooth, fluid, long stride guy.
My take on what was meant, but I could be wrong.

Shatty is not Larkin/Kreider fast but has good skating speed, seems to me.

Why waste the time with a player who doesnt have a clue as to what defense is and who just cant consistently put it all together? He shouldnt play in the top 6. Maybe top 9. But its not that simple to just say sign him up and we'll find a spot. I wouldnt want him playing over Buch of Vesey.

Hes not getting big money and if needed he gets sent to the minors or he goes back home.

I'd play him on the 4th line with Fast and the defensive center we will sign this summer.

This is a no lose signing.

This is another win now move that will not be worth it, even as a cheap $ only add.
Roster spot to youth, pls
build
build
dominate cup

I have no problem with a win now move. Signing Williams, trading a winger for another center (2A/1B), sign Shatty or smith, maybe sign Dadonov.

That's a team that can win a cup.

What winger are they trading? Not gona be Kreider, Zucc, Buch, or Vesey. Doubt they move Miller. So who is left that is getting you that center? Nash? He isnt and if you move him then youre not really in a serious "win now" mentality.

LOL at Halverson being our backup, he hasn't even looked good in the ECHL yet.

I guess Bern looked at where he was drafted and how many years passed since and figured out he's our next backup, laughable.

Found at another forum;

Larry Brooks wrote that the Rangers have reached out to Buffalo's Anders Nilsson about the role. (NY Post)

Brooks adds that other possible candidates could include Antti Niemi, Keith Kinkaid, Mike Condon or Ondrej Pavelec. (NY Post)

He needs to hit FA first. It won't happen

Not sold on this. Tavares could based on how the season begins. What is their arena situation? Are they actually contending, not just for the playoffs, but for a cup?

If he doesn't want to worry about leaving NY, he can sign with us. He'd be able to keep his current residence and be with a team that won't be leaving NY.

With the acquisition of DeAngelo, chances of signing both Smith and Shattenkirk diminishes. Bereglazov is already a good guy for the right side, with a ton of experience considering his age. Played on NA-sized rinks most games and was a 2nd pair D-man on a team that won the Gagarin Cup in 2016 and made the final in 2017. I'd be okay with just Shattenkirk.

Was the 2nd in 2018 conditional on us re-signing Smith? I am not sure.

Either way, going with Shattenkirk, DeAngelo and Bereglazov on the right is not a bad trio. If we do end up signing both Smith and Shattenkirk, I expect DeAngelo starting in Hartford IF Bereglazov earns a spot in the pre-season

Currently, I really doubt they are. Unless D'Angelo looks terrible and Pionk great in camp (and even then...) I think they give D'Angelo every possible shot at solidfying himself in the lineup possibly even on the 2nd pair depending on what they do re: free agency. If they do something like get both Shattenkirk and Smith, I think D'Angelo is the default 3rd pair RD unless, again, he's really bad.

I think Pionk could be pushing for a spot soon and injuries etc could play a role, but I think D'Angelo has the clear edge both because of what the Rangers gave up to get him, and because he just plain has more pro experience right now
