Right now it is Stepan, Girardi, Lindberg, and Holden out

DeAngelo and Bereglazov in

How about we wait before we see what the team is like and how we will do.

Holden isn't out yet. You might be looking at your new top right D lol

I can see situations where all of the below are available:

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Alex Galchenyuk
Victor Rask
Nathan MacKinnon
Dylan Larkin
Tyler Seguin
Steven Stamkos
Matt Duchene

RNH is terrible.

Stepan is better at literally everything except skating and that's not saying much.

Stepan: 0.69

None of these guys, except Seguin and Duchene, are better than Stepan. Some aren't even close.

Umm mackinnon or Larkin I'd take in a heartbeat. In mackinnons case he's already better then step

You wouldn't take MacKinnon over Stepan? What?

If MacKinnon is so much better why is his career PPG lower than Stepan? Barely above RNH's?

It's puzzling to say the least.

It's almost like you've never seen him play hockey...mackinnon is a stud, hes dynamic, id take him over step 10 out of 10 times....he's also 21 which to me tells me that you know nothing about him

He's a stud, but he doesn't outproduce Derek Stepan. Ok.

So I agree with you that the Avs centers are getting overrated (Why they havent been dealt yet)

But counterpoint- put Stepan on the NHL's 2nd-3rd worst team in the league the last 4 years. At the same time, put Mackinnon here. Are the numbers still the same?

It takes a Sidney Crosby or McDavid to single-handedly carry a line to productivity from the center position.

I think Nathan gets overhyped but its worth acknowledging that for many types of players numbers are skewed by their company.

By that logic, we got hosed on the Stepan deal. Not everything is that simple.

Tbh we probably did get hosed on the Stepan deal, but that discussion is for another time...

I think MacKinnon is a good, but flawed player. Players with his combination of speed and skills should be competing for scoring titles. He has played 4 full seasons as well. He can't score consistently vs. NHL goalies. He has a terrible SH% relative to other star players. I don't think he has the vision other top centers in the game have as well. Physicality, very few beat him though.

Seguin in his 4th NHL season was competing for a scoring title before that comparison comes up.

I think all of the above is a bit of a stretch and a hell of a gamble to take on with an original 6 franchise

Not a stretch because it's not a suggestion. We don't know what the Rangers have planned. I don't think they see Zibanejad and Hayes as clear cut 1C and 2C long term, or possibly even for 17-18.

I see your point, but that logic can also apply to RNH, who also played for the worst teams in the NHL (AND had better production through his first 300 NHL games).

RNH: 395 GP - 0.67 PPG
MacKinnon: 300 GP - 0.68 PPG
Stepan: 515 GP - 0.69 PPG

Yet there are two extremes to this.

RNH doesn't touch Stepan. Stepan doesn't touch MacKinnon.

Perhaps it's the pieces around him?

Holden will be 7th D and you know that. You already lead the doom-and-gloom wagon on actual things with the Rangers, no need to fabricate and embellish nonsense to suit your narrative.
