Just realized we traded Stepan. Now the last few pages of this thread makes sense.

Yes i live under a rock.

Duchene with 2 years left scares me. People think Stepan's year was bad. 41 points last year for Duchene.

Considering it currently appears to be a retool year next year, I'd rather try and find some guys with longer term than just the 2 for Duchene

nothing remotely close.

step was bad and on a good team.

duchene was ok on a very very bad team. not sure anyone could succeed in that cess pool.

15-16 he was 2.08 Rel.CF% :naughty:

One thing is for sure, no one is signing any home town discount offers for us from now on. We've traded Brassard and Stepan in back to back seasons out of the blue as a part of a retool. No one is safe. Might as well as get the contract you deserve and go from there if you might end up getting traded.

Evbery answer doesn't need to be given in this offseason. Build the team with a long term goal. If they add Smith and Shattenkirk this off-season then the defense is set. Next off-season or during the season keep an eye out for a good center to be available.

So you're going to pay a 28 year old defenseman a ton of money to fix a defense and HOPE that a center comes on the market or in the trade market over the seasons he's here?..

1) Glass
2).Pettersson

I dunno. I mean, obviously I'm only going off of highlights here, but SO many of those of Glass are him wide open sniping off the pass or deflecting in front. Don't get me wrong, those are valuable skills, but I just don't see Pettersson's creativity/making the players around him better.

BTW, on this subject, who are the players on Glass's line that are always setting him up? I'd look into those kids. :)

I think the turning on the NTC is worst part of the deal. Not that we should be giving anymore but they lost value because of this trade

OMG I was just thinking I wonder what guys who are overseas might wake up to with this trade.

You get valuable pieces as they come available. That's like saying when the Rangers traded Gomesz for McDonagh that they needed to go out and sign a center because their center depth was bad. either that or don't trade for McDonagh. It's a process

There was nothing fair about that.

We gave them a 2C at 27 years old with loads of playoff experience and potentially their starting goalie.

Stop with this fair value ********

It was entirely fair. 7th overall could be a home run and Deangelo projects as a top 4 RH PMD who's gonna be on the third pairing this year.

This board's expectations were way too high.

Why would you even want to unless they add another center (and I'm not talking about a bottom 6 one).. it would be a complete waste.

Because we would actually have a defense for the first time in a while.

We could draft someone tonight who may be able to fill in the 2/3C role next season or we can sign a vet (Thornton or Marleau) as a stopgap until our pick is ready.

Stepans legs will only get worse in a league thats turning more and more to speed.

I like the trade too.

valid point about the defense, wont matter if Hayes is the 2c, it just wont
