Sign Jumbo Joe to a 35+ contract and let him play with Nash with Zucc on the other wing.
Trade Staal to Florida.

Trade something small and Tambellini to Edmonton for Khaira and a pick.

No way they would. They want an NHL defenseman. Graves isn't that. Maybe one day, but not now.

There's no way Duchene will be obtained for less than what Stepan got.
 
As much as I've wanted, and suggested options for trading Staal, I don't see it happening, and not just because he has an NMC. We are currently way under the cap and likely have the cap space to make any of the other moves we have planned. If we needed Staal's cap space, it would be a different story, but I think he's here at least one more year.

Here's my guess. Either:

21st Overall packaged for Duchene/Galcnehyuk/MacKinnon

OR

21st Overall packaged for a Dman, sign Thornton.

I'm not thrilled with the return but this is the exact type of trade I've been hoping for.

We weren't winning a Cup without a franchise center and since we have been a playoff team for over a decade, we've never had a shot at a top pick, where the franchise centers are only available.

Now, we have our best chance at drafting and developing our guy. Finally.

Going into next season with Stepan as our 1c would have been the worst possible thing.

Running in circles, no longer.
 
Hischier, Patrick, Heiskanen, Makar, Pettersson, Glass, Mittelstadt are my guys to target. If for some reason 5 forwards are off the board before our pick, I'd take Makar or Heiskanen before Vilardi.

At this point, I'm expecting Glass or Mittelstadt.
 
What is the plan with dealing just Stepan for futures?

How can you justify keeping Hank, Zucc, Nash, McD?

When your center depth is torched. Makes zero sense, par for the course.
