I think the goalie market is being massively overrated. This feels a lot like Talbot.

"We're getting a 1st?"
/torches and pitchforks

A lot of them also unloaded a ton of terrible players for the 1st round picks. The Islanders are going to have the cap space now to target a sought after top 6 player to surround Tavares with which may lead to Tavares being more inclined to stay.

We didn't have any player to do that with. The only one would be Staal who had could have just turned it down.

because vegas gave the league hundreds of millions of dollars to get in

This is the test and the raiders are the centerpiece to legalized sports betting. Adam Silver did his little soap box piece on sports gambling a year or so back. This is an orchestrated effort by the big leagues to get sports betting legitimized. Big money there to be had. A major roadblock was always having a team in the state with legalized betting, would it be corruptive?

I know, I'm not suggesting we do that. I'm saying NYI and CBJ both have cleared cap space and more flexibility to improve their rosters this off season at the cost of a young player in the draft that won't be of importance for at least 3 years.

What the **** does money do for the fans?! And tell my why a league with stagnant revenue over the last three years decides it needs another team to bleed money in a desert?

1. Added another franchise to the league. Growing the market in return.
2. Added to the NYR 'bank'. The money will be used to pay staff and players, and upgrades in infrastrcture
3. Fund all extra-events such as the All-star game, outdoor games, affiliate teams.
4. An enormous host of other things connected to the game of hockey.

The NHL revenue is not stagnant, its growing every year. https://www.statista.com/statistics/193468/total-league-revenue-of-the-nhl-since-2006/

Until they have a down year, you cant claim its stagnant.

Addind a franchise is value for EVERYONE. So we lost a player. Lindberg was a 4th line center who played a good role on the team. There will be other players after Lindberg either through a trade or draft that will be as good or better in the very near future.

Vegas paid $500 million dollars to the league to join. Do you imagine that is a investment anyone does if they dont believe they have a very high chance of netting a profit?

Everyone wins.

Lindberg is a dime a dozen player.. Send a scout to Sweden and we can probably get a replace with the same last name....

No reason for outrage

If revenue is indeed growing, why have they needed to use the 5% inflator for the last three years?
As to the first part of your statement, all of that is good until they start losing money as they inevitably will, and once again, they successful markets will be called upon to bail them out! Finally, why would you want they league to grow and further deplete the talent pool? The product on the ice has been subpar for a years.

Winnipeg probably assured enstrom he would be protected in exchange for waiving. I think that was just Chevy being honest and upfront.

Possible centers are everywhere. Boyle, holland, Richardson off the to of my head.

Interested to see what other goalies get taken.

Other than building a brand in a weak tv market that no doubt will rely on selling tickets. I mean, what's the urgency when football is only a few years away taking up all the attention?

I thought they would try to make the playoffs right out of the gate. Come roaring out of the gate with a solid defense and goaltending. Flip the extra 7 players for decent forwards and prospects. They would have had a shot of being relevant before the raiders show up and make hockey an after thought until February.

Totally agree. McPhee screwed the pooch & this team is going to be very, very bad. If the Raiders weren't on their way here, I could see his point, but this team has a very short window to make an impact here. They could be facing irrelevancy before they ever get a chance to make the playoffs.

Big deal we lost a 4th line center. Other teams are losing impact players or first round picks to not do so.

Doesn't seem like any team is losing an impact player. A bunch of high picks, but nobody on a current roster who will be heavily missed.

Just heard there may be a deal in place with Vegas for a roster player going to NYC for a high pick, either this year or next. Did not get a name. But the guy seemed pretty sure

James Neal is the best so far.

That's interesting because most of the guys they are drafting don't seem worth high picks. Though there is Shea Theodore but you'd think he's a guy they'd want to keep.

See, this is the part that catches my eye. Hmmmmmm...

What high picks do we even have besides our first rounders? Do we still have our 2nd rounder next year or did we send the Ottawa 2nd to Detroit?
