What's the difference? LV isn't going to take either.

If it makes the decision to select another player 0.0001% harder, it's worth it.

As long as we don't waste an asset getting them to take Holden to spare Fast or Lindberg, then I'm fine. Well, pending the asset, of course.

Now they can keep the one they really want, then work out a deal to protect one of the other two. They couldn't take assets back without likely having to expose someone else, or settle for picks and prospects. They don't need futures. They're trying to win now.

Seems like a weird spot for the Knights to be in. They're going to have a really nice defense for a team that was supposed to only be stockpiling draft picks. :naughty:

Fair enough.

Think LVGK still stockpiles picks. There are a lot of teams poised to lose something of value after not doing anything today. LVGK can take advantage of that if they so choose.

I wonder if we're protecting Smith and will have a deal with him after Thursday

I think that was the fall back option if we didn't pick up a d. Get him signed in the next 24 hours before his agent sees how many rhd got exposed and potentially taken. A lot of teams will be looking for a Smith type July 1.

Was Girardi ever officially bought out? Rangers only announced they were going to but I don't think it was made official yet. He's still listed on the Rangers roster on their site.

Ha, the good old fake out so we can protect Holden and then after Thursday we're all like "SIKE".

We don't have to protect Holden if we don't want to.

Could just go 8-1 and do 6 forwards and two defensemen if we want to make sure he's exposed.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't trade Raanta. He was the one guy I felt really strongly would wind up elsewhere before 3PM.

Just based on the reports, it seems like the Rangers are keeping Raanta unless something they get blows them away. It's not like the Talbot situation where they were pretty much all in on trading him to capitalize on the value.

Why the heck would they waste a protection spot on Smith?

Protect Klein and hope they take Holden. If they do and K2 retires, the've cleared over $4.5M in cap.

I'd be way fine with losing Raanta to Vegas instead of Fast, Lindberg or Grabner.

Rangers always make it work with backups and our goalie pipeline is probably the strongest part of the entire organization.

Not a viable option...The 7 forwards we're protecting right now are Miller, Zucc, Stepan, Nash, Hayes, Kreider, Zibanejad. Who would we expose? Hayes?

Unless a deal is cut, it's gotta be Lindberg or Raanta. Fast is a nice player, but a wing, whereas Lindberg is a C. Goalies are a hot commodity right now.

He didn't say the Rangers would make a trade by the deadline, he said that Stepan's name is coming up in trade talks. He doesn't need to "save his ass".

It amazes me how some people can't understand the distinction.
