They can already do that with Klein retiring (if that's true) and the Girardi buy out and the cap going up a bit.

Potentially, but you might want the extra wiggle room with Zibanejad, Fast, and Lindberg getting raises.

If you get Strome, Dubois or Galchenyuk back then you have a shot at developing a legit top line center.

Either way, I'd rather start trying to take my chances on doing whatever it takes to find our franchise center as opposed to running in circles.

What makes you think Galchenyuk and Strome have the talent to be an elite center? Dubois might, but the other two don't really show they can reach that level. I am not convinced they will be better than Stepan (Unless you just look at offense and point production)

You get back a legitimate defenseman, or a first rounder plus a young cost-controlled center. Opening up that cap space, in addition to Girardi + Klein, also allows for the Rangers to look at signing Shattenkirk + Smith.

We don't have to trade Stepan to sign Shattenkirk and Smith.

They're going to lose one of them to Vegas.. Fast or Lindberg..

Shattenkir, Smith, Zibanejad, and Lindberg/Fast something like that could be the Rangers off season.

SO what?

I would rather them do that then make a bad trade.

I was just saying in that scenario where Stepan for 7th OA is happening regardless but we are waiting for the draft for it to be official. What do we have to gain by waiting until the draft?

So we can get the theatrics of Gary Bettman walking up to the podium all like "WE HAVE A TRADE TO ANNOUNCE" and the Rangers be at the center of attention for 5 minutes.

I still think Gorton shakes up the core more than that. Wasn't done today, but I believe more likely than not, Stepan will be out of here come July 1.

More time to get the deal that JG wants....

There is no rush here.

Remember we have no idea what Vegas is going to look like in 5 days, its possible that something may even be worked out with them.

We don't have to trade Stepan to sign Shattenkirk and Smith.

Galchenyuk has been the victim of horrendous coaching and yet still put up 30 goals last year. More than Stepan can say for himself.

No they are extremely overrating his value. He is not a star/superstar but are expecting that type of return for him

I don't think I can ever recall once seeing a post that overrated Stepan. The guy has been underrated his entire career as a Ranger.

Edit: Actually I think his dad probably made a post or two that overrated him, but that's to be expected.

It's possible.. We will see.. I could see Gorton targeting Galchenyuk in a trade.

We should not get greedy here.
don't go small w/just Step and try to get more than he is worth

see if, by adding we can do both Chychrun + 7OA

Be generous, but in the correct currency.
Stepan
Raanta
21OA
Holden [thanks Amazing K for advising we are covered w/just KK]
Grabner
and a prospect G not Shesty, prob Wall

for

7OA + Chychrun

follow up w/
Nash for Sharks 19OA + Bergman

then
McD at half + Zuc + 19OA
for
SReinhart + EKane + 8OA

possible EKane flip
possible something around Buch for Dumba

Minnesota really ****ing themselves. LVGK can hold them hostage in negotiations now.

Why? Even if they traded Dumba, Scandella, or Brodin, they were still going to lose one of them to Vegas unless they negotiated a trade for protection. Perhaps it's better to lose one for nothing than make a bad trade and then still lose one for nothing.

Interestingly, the Rangers aren't among them – and they have an extra slot to offer. It's actually somewhat surprising that it appears they didn't work out a D for F deal prior to the freeze. More from the POV of a MIN/ANA than from the Rangers' POV.
