If our list turns out to be what we expect it to be I would approach it in one of two ways if I was the Rangers.

1) If we can determine that Vegas will select one of Grabner, Holden or Raanta then I do nothing and let them go.

2) If we can determine that Vegas will select one of Lindberg or Fast I discuss giving Vegas a pick to not do that and entice them to select one of Grabner, Holden or Raanta.

I would be really disappointed if we come out of this losing Fast or Lindberg. Lindberg took a while to come back from the serious injury but I really like him and think he has some real upside. Fast I believe is at his ceiling (if he recovers from the hip injury ok) but his ceiling is something I am completely fine with. He is one of those under the radar guys that you can put in any situation that every good team needs. He is in the mold of a Matt Cullen/Carl Hagelin type player that you can throw out there at the end of a game in the playoffs and feel completely confident in him helping protect a lead.

concur on Shatty, with one exception. If he does 1 yr, even at 7.25m, it buys a stop gap. Don't expect he goes there, but he might

To get away from failed win now mentality, and instead try to take on enough in potential, so that when those seeds grow, you have surplus talent = profit. Potential of that vs cost and risk of futures

I don't see any possible way Shattenkirk signs a one year deal regardless how badly he wants to be a Ranger. These guys position themselves to get to UFA and get a nice long term contract to provide security for themselves. I would do the same in their spot. What if he signs a one year deal and then tears an ACL. He would have cost himself 40 million dollars.

that third OA pick would look real nice though. Grab a future top 2 d man in Heiskanen

There's also that chance that Heiskanen isn't there at 3, or the chance that he is, but doesn't ever reach a significant level in the NHL. I'm not trading both Stepan and Raanta, and taking back Lehtonen, for what essentially amounts to a lottery ticket. That ticket might have good odds of paying off, but it's not enough. If #7 and Strome is a reasonable return for Stepan (or Stepan and Raanta), which I think it is, then #3 isn't nearly enough.

Dale Tallon didn't sign Reilly Smith and Jason Demers to those contracts. Different GM. Would you swap Marc Staal for either player? Contract for contract.

Demers is owed $17M over the next 4 years.

Staal is owed $21.2M over the next 4 years.

5 years and $25M for Smith. First season of his 5 year extension.

I can definitely see 7+Duclair+sweeteners going down. At least he'd be going to a good team I guess.

This is a joke. Just say, I don't see how this deal can possibly go down under any circumstances.

I get mad when our posters just look through other rosters and pick and choose pieces without considering that team's needs, like it's a farm team. But this proposal is beyond fantasy. If your turn off the trade veto feature on a video game it still gets rejected.

I gotcha. Dallas would have to add for sure.

I would easily swap Demers for Staal.

I also don't see Duclair being of interest to the Rangers, despite the fan club that still resides here.

I think we got incredibly lucky to part with him, or maybe not luck but good office work on evaluating. But I look at him as a value pick, buy low deal, not former ranger-rekindle the relationship move.

No brainer, Staal is a replacement level player, Demers is a good #3, Smith is a solid middle 6 scorer.

I would. For either one.
