so Florida has to expose Demers, Marchessault (30 Goals only 26), and Smith (one year ago score 25 G, only 26)? wow

Has to? No. Chose to? Yes.

They decided to go 8/1 to protect Petrovic instead of going 7/3/1 and protecting JAM, and Smith, and another forward to expose Petrovic with Demers.

Doesn't make sense to me.

well yeah that's what I meant, since they made that choice, all 3 have to be exposed now.

So his suckage came from something else than his fire or motivation? If it's exogenic, like a heart break, fine. But if it endogenic, it must be his will/fire/motivation.

Sports performance doesn't work like that, at all. The performance on the ice is compounded by another set of factors. That's like saying, Hitler lost WW2 either because he was heart broken about his dog that died or he didn't want it enough.

Ah, sorry, think I read your post wrong.

Either way, Demers was going to be exposed. It seems they value Petrovic more than possibly losing one of JAM or Smith for nothing. Which is a choice.

How can we make a deal with VGK to take Demers and ship him to us?

I wish instead of telling us who the teams protected, the beat writers would also tell us who isn't protected so fans of 30 other teams can get to the point of seeing who is available to be selected and what teams might do to persuade LV to not take certain players.

Well, if they value Petrovic over Smith or JAM, then the right move is to protect petrovic. I like petrovic last year. Plus defensemen are kind of hot right now. It doesn't matter how many players you end up not protecting. Vegas can only pick one. The availability of 3 valuable assets doesn't make it any worse. At the end of the day, they'll lose Riley Smith while we lose an Jesper Fast even if we manage to leave unprotected a group of Glass, Staal, and Fast.

sheesh. Great comparison really.

You could have just continued by defining that set of factors that would make a sports performance work. Physical and mental attributes, exogenic and endogenic factors and many more. The dude is not a machine. If something devastating happens in his personal life it will affect his professional life. That we can let slide. But if he just plain sucks and/or doesn't believe in himself and/or the team and/or coach, it's trading time.

Only middle ground i see is maybe Duke + #7 as the base, but not sure.

I don't consider that middle ground.

Thats like a step above low ball. Coyotes fans are not being realistic, if Stepan goes to Arizona, they're parting with at least 2 assets that they really don't want to lose (one of them being the #7), maybe 3.

Florida may be using that as a way to get out of Smith's contract? He did regress a bit this year

Florida is really high on Petrovic. Every Panthers game I watched, Potvin would just gush about how he's the most underrated defenseman. That sentiment has to be shared throughout the organization.

If the Rangers trade Stepan to Arizona for young players & #1 pick, the Rangers are transitioning to a younger team. I am trying to be very nice here but it makes no ****ing sense to take the cap savings and invest it in 28 year old Kevin Shattenkirk. By the time the young assets acquired in the Stepan deal are matured and developed,Shattenkirk's contract will be a problem. Pick a direction and stick with it. Maybe the Rangers could swing a deal with the Quebec expansion team in 2021 for them to take Shattenkirk's contract but his NMC will allow him to reject a move to Quebec.

Arizona acquired Brandon Hickey from Boston University in the Mike Smith trade. He finished his junior year at BU. Hickey could stay in school one more year and become a free agent in August 2018. Steve Greeley recruited Hickey to BU. Greeley was also an assistant coach during Hickey's freshman year. Is Hickey in a potential Stepan deal? Can the Rangers trade for Hickey and he turns pro this summer? Hickey plays for the Rangers at some point in 2017-18. He would give a younger D on an ELC to play next season. Good mobility which is what the Rangers are looking to add according to Larry Brooks.

concur on Shatty, with one exception. If he does 1 yr, even at 7.25m, it buys a stop gap. Don't expect he goes there, but he might

Why would the Rangers entertain a futures trade for Stepan at all?

To get away from failed win now mentality, and instead try to take on enough in potential, so that when those seeds grow, you have surplus talent = profit. Potential of that vs cost and risk of futures

LeBrun reading my tweets and HF posts. I was on this 14 hours ago  :sarcasm:

We'll see how much of this happens, hope it's a lot.
We should be in on this on several players, Manson and Demers for example.
There will probably be a couple more D-men worth looking into the price for aswell.
I'd start by dangling Kevin Hayes and see how far that takes us :)
