You are assuming the best offer a UFA would get is Arizona and they would take it. Both assumptions problematical.

Raanta could be a great chip for the Rangers if Vegas passes on him. Stay tuned.

I'm sure if i dig a bit i'll fine more options too, point is that it's not THAT hard to replace a league average goalie like Smith, he's also old and will likely fall off a cliff soon.

I ****** hate playing against Tom Wilson but anybody saying he sucks is kidding themselves. He is a guy I would easily take on my team.

I didn't say he sucks.

He's their Fast. I do think Fast is a better player than Wilson.

Vegas is going to flip guys... 23 man roster... 30 NHL picks...

it's not like 7 of them will clear waivers in September.

They have flips ready... MIN will be hurting.

Unless they fill out the roster with guys they want to put on their AHL team. Don't know why they would though. Plenty of those guys around.

Not to mention that Smith is almost criminally underrated on this board.

He's like bang on league average, slightly over, but he's also wildly inconsistent which can be an issue.
My biggest problem with him is that he's huge and old, a combination which usually leads to massive falls off cliffs.

Tom Wilson is an average 4th liner who's pretty good on the PK and plays a reckless game and should be suspended several times a season, protecting him is madness.

He is a pretty important player for them, of course they were going to protect him.. They were going to protect Brett Connolly or Jay Beagle over him?

He's not important, he's an average 4th liner... And yes, both Connolly and Beagle are better players then him, by quite a bit actually.

Because they are mandated to pick 30 players... almost all of whom will not be waiver exempt.

Roster limit is 23... 7 NHL players will not pass through waivers, so they will cash in.

Vegas' owners have money to spend as well. You can expect some retention but I don't see them hanging onto all of their picks.

Those players aren't required to have played any games in the NHL or even be of NHL caliber. The Blue Jackets once picked Dmitry Subbotin from us. And if you're wondering who that is: exactly.

They have 23 NHL roster spots, but 50 contracts they can look to fill.

A funny rumor is that CBJ apparently plans on protecting Jack Johnson over Ryan Murray, if this is true then Kekeläinen should be fired on the spot.

I don't even think Murray is that great but losing him for JACK JOHNSON?!

CBJ is supposedly paying a hefty price for Vegas to take Calvert.

If you think Smith is criminally underrated here you should go to the Coyotes board.

Smith stood on his head last year. He won 6 or 7 games making 40+ saves. Several other games he singlehandidly kept Coyotes competitive. Yes, he has some tough nights here and there but on many nights last year he was the only wheel they had spinning.

Yes he is 34 but he has a great attitude, has been a real team leader and he is an all around good guy. I produced a TV spot with him here in PHX and he was far and away the easiest athlete I ever worked with. At the end of the shoot, he hung with the crew and brought a round for everyone. That has never happened before or since.

i also think it makes it less likely that guys like Hanzal and Vrbata end up back in Arizona.

CBJ getting bent over because they're loyal to Jack Johnson, that's pure comedy... He's awful and Vegas wouldn't go near him anyways.

Which may not be a bad thing, all else aside. If there's a roster in the league that needs a culture change...

I asked this on the main trades board, but I'm curious to hear what you say about this: what are the Coyotes plan for getting up to the cap floor? From looking at capfriendly, it seems like they're probably about $12-13m away from it right now, only needing to sign 3 forwards and a goalie... none of them would be averaging $3m salaries.

I have no idea how you talk to those people. They're so obsessed with their young prospects but are going to throw them to the fire just like the Oil did with Hall, RNH, and Yakupov years. No leadership to show the kids how to win at this level. They act like Stepan is a plug without using any evidence at all.

Staal and Lundqvist together gets them to the cap floor ;)

If there's a prearranged deal with vegas sending Vatanen there, then how is Manson being selected. He's exposed? Bieksa protected? I'm confused

Part of the deal with Vegas acquiring Vatanen would be the Knights taking anyone else off the exposed roster besides Manson.

Bieksa has an NMC so he automatically uses a protection slot. The Ducks didn't ask him to waive or buy him out.

So really, it looks like the Ducks are going to get a couple of assets for Vatanen and lose someone like Andrew Cogliano.

Would it be crazy to do a James Worthy trade? Trade a good Ranger for the Vegas 2018 draft pick?

He is not huge by any means. In a fact I was stunned the first time I met him. He is in incredible shape.

6'4 and ~220lbs, that's pretty big.

He's also injury prone already, he's definitely falling off a cliff sooner rather then later.

How are the Ducks going to gain assets for Vatanen?

As far as I'm aware, it looks more like Anaheim is going to send a piece to Vegas to make sure they select Vatanen and not Manson...

Pysyk is being protected by Florida.

Looks like Barkov, Trochek, Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Yandle, Ekblad, Pysyk, Petrovic.

Demers and R. Smith exposed.
