If I was Vegas, I would just use the negotiating window to talk to all the free agents they want to and then say, "OK, see ya July 1."
They can't pick him. They can negotiate a contract with him and if he decides to sign with them, he becomes their pick from the Rangers. If he decides to not sign with them, they have to pick someone else.
Fleury only wants Vegas. Should help Raanta's value greatly.
Yes, and do you know what else changed? They got a bunch of new players in Hagelin, Kessel, Murray, Guentzel, Sheary, Bonino... Their team clicked and Sullivan deserves credit but to claim Sather made a mistake to let him go, is just wrong. Hindsight is 20/20, sure but Sullivan wouldn't have won anything here

Use Rantaa to swap 1sts with either Calgary or Winnipeg.

If LVGK doesn't pick MAF in expansion, PIT is just gonna buy him out. Then, Fleury can go anywhere he wants. Teams won't need to trade for Raanta if they can have a shot at UFA Fleury.
Meanwhile, it was no secret around the league that MAF was going to waive for expansion, so I doubt this changes much of anything regarding Raanta's value.

Right now it might not make sense to have girardi waive since we won't protect Holden. But if we make a trade before expansion and acquire a d, that spot would come in handy. Just ask the guys to waive.
Really no reason for NYR to ask G/Staal to waive for expansion. Who do they want to protect, Holden?
How's this for a reason: they choose the 8-1-1 configuration and protect an extra forward (Oscar, Jesper or Grab) and just protect McD.

I know we will lose Ranta, Oscar, Fast, or Grabner but I really don't know which guy would be the worst to lose and which guy would be easiest to lose. They are all assets. I think Grabner was the best last season. Oscar might have more future value.

Friedman named him as one of the players who was asked to waive, but he has until Friday to respond on an official basis.
Any other sources?
Just other folks quoting Friedman from what I've seen, he's saying Bieksa, Phaneuf and Yandle were asked to waive.
