Kyle Turris
That was the last time a tier 2 player went top 5. Even though Makar plays a level below the BCHL, a lot of Western scouts think he's the BPA in the entire draft.
Karlsson 2.0.

It was only a matter of time this board leaps from
1. Stepan is available for the right price
2. ARI trade potential with prospects and 7th OA pick
3. Acquiring 7th OA pick, Domi/Dvorak/Strome, another piece for Stepan
4. upgrading from 7th overall pick to 2nd OA pick
5. Drafting Nico/Patrick
6. Acquire RHD for Hayes+ or Miller+ now that our forward group is younger and cheaper
7. Gain $10,000,000 in cap space with additional moves to clear our roster players now that we have Strome + N or P.
8. Sign Shattenkirk and Smith with excess cap space.

I love this time of year. For even a fleeting moment, some of the most unrealistic scenarios can become plausible.
Not gona be surprised at all when Stepan is still here next season. And i will be happy to have him stay.
If Dallas is looking for extra firepower, could Nash be a guy? Something around Nash+Holden for #3?
Maybe throw in Tanner Glass in case that's not enough.
They're not throwing away a future star for a year of Nash and getting prolapsed on defense by Holden. We're not going to be able to move Holden to a Western conference team, guaranteed. They've seen enough of Holden with Colorado to know he's fodder. We have until this deadline to get rid of Holden for a pick, otherwise, no one is going to want him for anything more than a 5th round pick in 2019.
Oh, contract expires this year actually. God I hope we don't re-sign him. Don't know what management sees in him. They ***** about Clendening and McIlrath having no footspeed as the main reason why they were both relegated to the 8th ring of hell and here we are, protecting Holden who has no foot speed either.
This is my biggest anticipation of the off-season. **** the Stepan trade rumors, I want to know whether or not they're bringing back this dill.
Her greatest role hands down."Would you give a **** what kind of pants the son of a ***** who shot you was wearing?"![]()
My favorite for this time of year.....people spend the entire year railing against so and so, as to what kind of a player he is AHL fodder, 4th line trash, etc. But come this time of year, said player suddenly has 1st or second round pick trade value on the open market.I love this time of year. For even a fleeting moment, some of the most unrealistic scenarios can become plausible.
This seems as good a time as any to bring up that I am strongly opposed to signing Shattenkirk for anything more than a major discount.
Similar sentiment to Stamkos and Yandle last year.
I'm also really put off that Smith, who most of the DRW fans wanted scratched, is looking at a big long contract after a good quarter of a season.
We should be developing young and cost controlled defensemen right now, or we'll regret it when McDonagh and Skjei are up for contract. More Bereglazov and Graves, less Shattenkirk and Smith.
Aside from Bern, I think very few will be disappointed if Stepan is still here. It means at worst, Gorton didn't make a bad deal.
And frankly, Infind a lot of the speculation to be fun. The Stepan trade talk didn't come up out of thin air. When Bobby Mac says quite a few teams are discussing Stepan, I consider it valid. At the end of the day, all that concerns me is that, if Stepan gets dealt, the return needs to be a good one. I will be very satisfied with a return that includes both Strome and the 7th pick, especially since Strome has the 'silverfish' deal of approval.
That could be a very dangerous player.
Only thing is if we have:
Zibby
Hayes w/ brain
Actual Hayes
were very slow down the middle.
I have extremely unrealistic expectations of a return when trading Stepan to the point where the 7th OA and Strome wouldn't be enough for me. I see you also said the word 'includes' in the above, I just want to make that abundantly clear for everyone else
I want a king's ransom.

I'm just looking at the established rate for a player like Stepan, which is a top 10 pick, a top prospect and a good young player. 7OA/Strome checks off two of those boxes. Add Rantaa to the deal, and the 35th pick should be coming back.
Frankly, if Gorton got Strome, another prospect, the 7th and took
Liljegren, then took a skilled forward at 21, and another center at 35, I'd call it a heckuva couple of days for this franchise going forward.
Gorton might be more desperate to trade Stepan than we assume. I think he is. You don't explore the market for both Brassard and Stepan in consecutive years without having some sort of principle in mind about retooling and not carrying a long term contract that expires when the player is past their prime. Seems like Gorton is really working hard to youthenize this franchise after the whole Eric Staal catastrophe. I wouldn't be surprised if the return is in the same scheme as the Brassard trade. Younger quality player + 1st.
To me, it feels like Gorton is pretty active in shopping Stepan and wants to get a deal done. Some of you are going to be disappointed by the return if you're expecting a "not motivated to move Stepan unless there's an overpayment" type of a return.
I'd want the other piece to be Fischer, would take Crouse if that's too much. Overall, that should be the framework. AZ keeps Keller, Dvorak, Domi, Chychrun, etc.I'm just looking at the established rate for a player like Stepan, which is a top 10 pick, a top prospect and a good young player. 7OA/Strome checks off two of those boxes. You underplay that Bobby Mac has reported multiple suitors for Stepan.
Gorton may be 'motivated' to move Stepan, but, the indication is that he has many options, which would naturally drive the price for Stepan. As long as he doesn't overplay his hand, I think most of us won't be disappointed with the return.
