who is to say somebody would want him.

His non-verbal body language after many goals is awful. He looks to the sky as if in disbelief that he should have made the save. How appealing it that? It’s like an admission he’s old, can see the puck yet can’t make the save.
He's looking at the jumbotron for the replay. Everyone does that.

Kreider's game is based on net front presence as much as speed, which shouldn't be effected by aging as much. Another way to look at it is that if/when Kreider loses a step, he'll still be as fast as everybody else, so it won't effect his game as much.

Well if he's as fast as everyone else than all his breakaways, 2 on 1s, and rushes past guys on the outside go away. Not exactly ideal for a guy who does not have great hands with the puck or a great shot. And as for net front aging well, well that's the role Backes/Lucic/Simmonds all had which did not exactly age well either.

You have a kid who hasn't played a second in the NHL on the first line. And a kid who hasn't shown he can stick in the NHL on the second line centered by a kid with 17 NHL games worth of experience. AND Kakko and Chytil on the 3rd???

Huh? That's a terrible way to look at it. It's because of his speed he is able to do stuff offensively on the ice. When he is the same speed as other players he won't be able to do those things.

I certainly hope that Fox becomes that, but he is not as of yet. And simply looking at how many people have done it, I am not counting on it. Which is not to say that Fox cannot be an excellent player in his own right. Just not sure that he will be as much of an offensive difference maker as DeAngelo.

You know my view. I think that Trouba, DeAngelo & Fox will occupy the right side for a long time. Lindgren takes one of the lower two spots on the other side and prospects like Lundqvist are moved as part of a package to get that partner for Trouba.

I still don't think we're going to have all 3 guys down the right for any significant amount of time. If DeAngelo switches to the left that's a different story. It's inefficient roster construction to have a situation with all 3. Whoever is your 3rd pairing guy isn't going to get enough ice time to be as effective as possible. Or, if you balance out the ice time with the 2nd pairing guy, then neither of them are getting the right amount of ice.

Someone is going to get moved and it's not Trouba. So, whether that's TDA to the left, TDA in a trade, or Fox in a trade... it's going to happen. Smart money is on TDA being out the door.

Net front presence isn't affected by aging?

Because deflecting pucks or banging in rebounds isn't dependent on reaction time... and reaction time isn't one of the things that's affected by age?

He said not affected as much.

Pretty brilliant huh!?

Pulju is a perfect fit with Panarin. Kyrou too.

Kakko is still young. We should have patience with him. He will start to become more and more consistent. Think he should take the first step on the PP though. It’s a good line. Barabanov would be a great fit with Kakko.

That 4th line would be sick if Howden just became a little more consistent.

Or, actually getting to the net to deflect those pucks.

I have repeatedly stated I'm less concerned about ages 29-32 as I am from 32-36. His elite talent has to do with his speed, size and strength combination. Those are physical attributes. Often times, those physical attributes are the ones that fail faster than say, elite hockey sense or playmaking.

5 years is my absolute max I'd go. That's non-negotiable for me. I also don't see the need to go above $6.5m per season. If he wants more, I'm sure he will get it in free agency but I'd be totally content trading him for assets and avoiding that $7m x 7 year contract other teams will be offering.

Your second line is one massive question mark outside of Panarin. Brilliant, absolutely.

what did he tweet?
His brother went off about Vince Z suggesting his next contract will be $3-4 million and he quote tweeted it with the eyes emoji or something. Looks like it's been deleted. That is a terrible guess by Vince, but shut up about it. Let it play out in negotiations.

I've thought this since his ill-timed holdout.
What on Earth is an 'ill-timed holdout'????

Aren't they all timed for the start of camp/pre-season/into the reg season?

I guess maybe if we were expecting to be competitive this season it might be more inconvenient, but by definition, all holdouts are ill timed or they're just contract negotiations.

He'll still be able to deflect pucks from in front, of which he's been the best in the league for several years now.

I'm also not advocating for retaining him, I'm just saying that I think his toolset will keep him productive well into his 30s.
