I'd assume Ottawa likes their G prospects and/or are looking at Askarov. A trade for a goalie would just be bad asset management for them imo.

Detroit might have a nice 2nd rd pick. If we can get that + for Georgiev, I think that's as much as we'll get. On the other side, I don't see why others teams should look at Georgiev as a sure fire starter or what not.

In fairness, Panarin is quite obviously carrying the Rangers and elevating them from what would otherwise be a dumpster fire.

Is Hall doing that in Arizona? Is he carrying them even in their mediocrity? Weren't they a bubble team before he got there?

I don't think I see their impacts the same.
How about we agree to stop using the term ‘dumpster fire’. May I suggest we start using ‘hipster pyre’?

Disagree. Fast is much more versatile. Kapanen can skate, make a hit or two and miss the net with a hard shot. Can he improve? Maybe. But Rangers need some players they can rely upon. Kapanen has the tools, Fast has the hockey IQ.
Did Kapanen play in the Ranger game? I didn’t get to see it end-to-end but I certainly didn’t notice him if he did play.

Here is some serious wishful thinking for you.
What if....Dubas went and got Jack Campbell because Gorton told him Georgiev wasnt the goalie being traded anymore, but rather Lundqvist.

Personally, I'd like to see Lundqvist finish his career here as a Ranger and trade Georgiev. We're not winning anything this year or next anyway.

My wishful thinking.

Yeah, Campbell replaces Hutchinson. Not seeing this move as solving the bigger problem.
Yep. They’ll have to pay Andersen $7-8m per year. How? I don’t know. I guess management is thinking that’ll be the next regime’s problem.

You have to ask yourself if you're approaching the corner or turning it. The Rangers are among the youngest teams in the league, have what some consider to be the strongest prospect pools of any NHL team, and have been fielding a ton of players 21 & under and actually winning more games than losing.

Why are we trading young guys like ADA, Zibanejad, Buch, & Skjei? These are the young vets of the team. I get trading Kreider, though I don't love it, because of the buyouts and bad contracts (Staal, Smith) on the books. I get trading Georgiev. I get listening to calls for Fast & Strome.

At some point the foundation is poured, the frame is in place, and it's time to hang the f***ing drywall.

That's where we're at. Drywall.

Kreider and Buch making it hard in Gorton last night. It would be hard to look at the lineup and dismantle the only line that really clicked last night and then look at what the roster looks like after they are gone. He's gonna need some brass ones to do the right thing

I'd love to see what Mikael Granlund's market is like.

I like Granlund too, followed him since he was like 15-16 y/o. He has never really come into his right element in the NHL, think some of it has to do with him entering the league a little to early in the ongoing phase towards a more skilled based game.

In general though, UFAs are a bit scary.

Yeah, but Zucc did the same thing. At least the return should be accordingly.

With Buch, I am not sure we would be trading him at the best point in time.

Kapanen played and he made some nice plays. You could see his speed. He was able to use that to push the puck up the ice a few times. He moves well. He could be a decent 2nd liner but he is buried on the 3rd line.

3rd line is where he belongs imo

I would like Hank to finish as a Ranger. I could see him signing 1 year deals at a low cap hit after this contract expires to be the backup. I am ok with that.

But before a certain few freak out and say I don’t know what I am talking about or go on a sarcastic tirade against Hank, its not even just about the love and appreciation for Hank. I just don’t think they get much for Hank even at 50% retained. Or at least I don’t think they will get as much as they could for Georgiev. There are more factors and potential moving forward that makes GG attractive for teams. Meanwhile we can survive Hank’s cap hit for next year. He won’t prohibit Gorton/JD from icing a competitive team next year.

Carolina, SJ, DET...all teams that can be a trade partner. Not sure what player from Carolina we would be looking at. But Labanc and maybe a deal around Athanasiou from the other teams? Getting a top 9 forward for GG would be instrumental to the build of this team moving forward.

Making it easier. Value continues climbing. At least on Kreider. Buch I doubt gets traded.

And you may very well be right. He can be an excellent 3rd liner which is really what we need. Similar to what Hagelin was. Kapanen could also move up in case of injuries.
Kapanen has better hands and shot than Hags ever did, but while fast, is a step down from his best-in-league speed, IMO. Excellent middle six player, whereas Hags was an elite bottom sixer, if that makes sense.

And that's assuming Kapanen doesn't continue to improve (which is very unlikely, he is only in his full 2nd NHL season). He could easily end up being a consistent 55 point scorer which puts him as a top 2nd liner stat wise.

I was thinking the same thing.

Georgiev for Rees / Gauthier

Georgiev for Labanc.

Georgiev plus a player like Libor for AA and their 2nd pick.

As many of us though, Toronto goes dumpster diving. Good luck with that strategy. Wilpon is eyeing the Toronto GM, “I like the cut of your jib, kid”.

Yeah, the writing was on the wall. If you were GM of Toronto, do you bet on Andersson as the sole No 1 + a backup with a pulse or deal a good young forward like Kapanen for Georgiev? Just think the No 1 alternative always had more upside for them, right or wrong. It doesn't if you don't believe in Andersson. Think Toronto still likes his capacity though.
