Like I said at one point, if the Rangers want to keep the annual salary down, they could get creative and offer more term but a lower annual salary.

6x8

Gets him closer to his overall market deal, albeit one year later, and only results in a $2 million raise over his current deal.

6-8 years from now that salary would be the equivalent of Smith’s salary today.

I think he gets a slightly bigger return than expected. He’s the best forward available and GM’s know he’s the type of player that succeeds in the post season.
The Blues have some nice forward prospects/young players if JG isn't interested in basically a 30/31st overall pick.

This has been a sidebar in Kreider talk for years, and obviously the situation's changed because they have a decent record now. But it never clicked with me that NHL players would say "I do not want to play on the team that Connor McDavid plays on" because of the city.

It’s funny...for years we tried to think of every scheme imaginable to get a right hand defenseman. Now we have enough in the organization to stock two teams. No hurry from my POV to move DeAngelo. He has developed into a very nice player, much more than I ever expected him to be. If the Rangers do decide to move him, I expect nothing less than a first line player in return. Value for value.

I also had an thought...let’s say Kreider is willing to accept a Ranger contract offer whatever that may be. Is there a point when you consider trading him instead because the return is so good?

The return for Hayes is a starting point. If Kreider is moved he will bring back more. Better player, stronger market.

Ugggg, if we offer him that contract then please, just take me out to the pasture and shoot me.

Personally I would not offer that contact to Kreider, and I’m not crazy about some of the other concepts floated on here.

But, I always try to separate what I think vs. what the Rangers think and could do.

I wasn’t in favor of signing Panarin, but I also had to acknowledge that once they won the lottery, odds went up tremendously.

We counting on a compliance buyout in the new cba I take it.

Said it last year, will say it again, there will be a 3 for 1 trade to address LD or a high end forward.

I personally think the season that ADA is having is really mucking up the direction the front office wanted to go in.

I'm of the opinion that you do not trade defenders that are posting 60 points and while he hasn't done that yet, hes well on his way.

Defensively he can get better. Defense can be taught, his offensive skill is innate.

I'd rather hold onto him and watch him fail at putting up 50+ points than trade him and watch him post a few more 50+ point seasons

I’m there too.
I am firmly in the re-sign-krieder-for-5-or-fewer-years-in-the-6m-range camp. And it seems CK may be willing to take that deal now. But the apparent bidding war and subsequent return is making me re-consider my re-sign-him stance.

Hayes in the playoffs for Winnipeg reminded me of Eric Staal the Ranger, just a weird big slow guy who didn't gel with the team. Kreider should be easier to "plug and play." But Hayes was having a great season, and he's a center, and he kills penalties, so if we get a first round pick I don't expect a better extra piece than Lemieux.

Kreider for Kostin and 1st in 2020 will happen if he goes to the Blues. Kostin big winger, chemistry with Kravtsov at WJC, young and already playing pro hockey.

I don’t see us getting Kostin and their 1st for an unsigned CK. Tarasenko started skating about a week ago.

Sundqvist is in their IR as of yesterday. I think Fast would be a good replacement for him, assuming he’s out for awhile.

Fast for STL’s 2nd.

I think Fast would be a very good fit there. STL 2nd will be like a 3rd round pick. Could be a fair trade.

For the crap Quinn gets, he sees what I'm seeing. Lindgren-Fox has been really good, Skjei-Trouba has been really bad. Not sure this is a test for Lindgren so much as just trying to find better combinations that work for all players.

Hajek-Trouba looked better than Skjei-Trouba, so maybe this works.

The speculation isn't. This isn't "Top pair minutes" for Lindgren because top pair mostly has to do with special teams involvement.

Exactly. Very late 2nd. Sundqvist is a good utility player for STL and that injury hurts them.
Sundqvist and Barbashev were beasts in the playoffs. Hitting everything that moves. very very effective players in playoff hockey.
