The Kreider situation is one of the rare cases where the correct path forward is not clear at all. Assuming Kreider is ok with 6.5x5 but with simultaneously a bidding war for him in a trade. I think moving Fast, Strome, Georgiev, even Buch...no brainers, sell to the highest bidder. But Kreider, personally, both are reasonable ways forward.
He's not signing for 5 years, that's the issue

I like ADA. He's most definitely a quality player. But if something comes along the way like a ADA for Conner swap I'd take it. We have a plethora of Defenseman prospects and almost zero forward ones. I'll take my chances at young forward like Conner. (If he was available)

The logic there is fine, but I think ADA gets you more in the realm of an Ehlers than a Connor.

I agree with all of this. I just get the feeling given how DeAngelo's career has gone so far that he will be trying to get a long term deal especially given the fact we strong armed him into a crappy deal this year. I mean it was only a couple years ago people were questioning if he had a spot in the nhl so I'd say he will be looking long term.
This bantering makes it seem like I dont like tony that's not the case, I just feel we have bigger needs now and a pipeline to support the decision to move him.
If I'm Deangelo I would be very open to a bridge deal. Players like to bet on themselves and if he reaches his potential will have a tremendous amount of leverage at 26 years old

Lets say the club does indeed decide to move DeAngelo instead of paying him. In that scenario he will certainly bring a nice piece in return. So that’s all good however, it also leaves a very Vanilla defense.

Tony D has that spunk. I think the club has needed that for a long time. Sometimes that’s hard to measure.

Trouba has plenty of spunk. As does Lindgren.

There are certain other characteristics they don't share with Tony, but that's not one of them.

This is from a few days ago.

Weekes said Kreider is not interested in going to Western Canada.

8 teams

Boston

Colorado
Blues
Stars
The Rangers can leverage the teams in the central.

Pittsburgh
Carolina

Columbus?
TB?

Edmonton and Calgary could be two of the eight teams. Kreider would have to waive his limited NTC.

I wish Trouba consistently played with as much spunk as ADA, he'd be a bastard to play against; and I wish Lindgren had 1/2 the skill ADA does to go with the spunk, he'd be our first pair LD.

We can find another forward at a later time. Doesn't even need to be this offseason. Let's find out more about Kakko, Kravtsov, and others before jumping the gun on trading assets, and even from our defense, before we make an add.

We should be in no rush to add players. Our assets allow them to wait. We're not a team that is pressing to win a cup or even make the playoffs.

As fans, we want to expedite that process, but everything management has expressed is patience and until that tone changes, we're in no rush.

Also, let's see what a Kreider returns. Getting a young NHL forward or one on the brink means another player to evaluate over the rest of this season.

Then after the playoffs, teams are going to want to make moves, whether their team direction changes or a shakeup is needed. We can take advantage of all these things, especially the teams in cap trouble.

Nearly half of Buffalo's forwards are free agents. Not sure there is much there to look at because you have their untouchables, young players, and overpriced players.

Not sure anything outside of Reinhart or Eichel on that roster is interesting up front to the point I'd say we could fleece them

not sure if there is an easy way to find this...but has there ever been a team where the entire side of their blue line (left or right) saw all 3 guys score 40+ points? 45+? 50+?

Did they say 8 teams are interested in Kreider? wow. If he desired to go to western canada that probably would be 10 teams?!
