Talbot's deal was very fair, it's just there was a wave of hysteria beforehand getting our hopes all the way up.

EDM had a late 1st to trade but ended up dealing it for Griff Reinhart instead who wasn’t looking good at all at that point, so that was kind of annoying too.

That Lebrun article was weird. He had us getting a clear overpayment. And then the other 5 trades were very conservative and low. St. Louis will be going for it though. And Taranseko is probably out for the regular season so his cap hit can be LTIR. Kreider can easily be absorbed. They have some great futures. We are good partners.

Sakic isn't paying for Kreider, but I think other Western teams are very aware of their speed. I just hope this gets resolved sooner than later even though I know better.

I've been out of the loop but saw rumblings... of HL to Colorado? Is that fake news?

Yeah, it was 16th. The Islanders picked Barzal there. I never really expected the Rangers to get that for Talbot, but it was annoying to see it go for Griffin Reinhart.

Well, I think it comes down to talking to sources and realizing over the last several weeks that a number of teams have a clear preference for Kreider over the field, and thus interpolating where the bidding might eventually wind up.

Let's hope!

Lebrun just on Sirius. Says no contact talks between Rangers and CK and he feels the goalie situation won’t be remedied until the offseason. Would imagine Georgiev might be getting lower offers than JG likes right now

Lebrun is a respected insider who’s discrete about his sources and the way he communicates teams’ views. Like saying in this tweet that the Rangers would be comfortable with not trading Georgiev by the trade deadline simply indicates that there is a gap between expected value and offers so far. Kind of a chance to invite more teams and remind those already involved that it’s not the Rangers who are on the clock to figure it out.

I think that package for Pageau is pretty hefty.

Going to be quite a whirlwind with Kreider over the next three weeks. Guessing he's traded for a 1st + to someone who thinks they have a chance. Smith/Staal? Untradeable unless we're sending additional assets the other way and even then that's dubious. Fast - 50/50. Strome 50/50. Re-signing Kreider in the summer? Not likely. Georgiev is going somewhere by the summer. Hank plays through 20-21 as a backup. Shesterkin takes over as the starter.

It's funny, you look at circumstance and Fleury is now tied with Lundqvist in overall wins. Nice to play with Sid and Malkin for most of your career

hard to believe it, but his NHL career started before Hanks

I call this The Osgood Effect

The Kreider thing is interesting. We were at this crossroads with Hayes last year. With Callahan a few years ago.

I'll just say this: You can concede that a UFA is overpaid for his production, while at the same time arguing that he is a good signing. UFAs are overpaid because of market forces and because the league artificially suppresses the salaries of the most productive players through the ELC and RFA mechanisms. In a perfect world you would stack your roster with talented ELCs and RFAs. 22 cost-controlled guys who light it up throughout the lineup. In the real world you have to sign some UFAs. So the questions become who and for how much.

You can sign a guys second contract. The third contract is the one that kills you, unless you are getting a no don’t first liner.

None of the guys moved as pending ufas did I doubt the org for letting go. Not one. Not cally not zucc Hayes etc. but Kreider will be a horrible move that sets us back another few years. Mark my words we’ll regret it. It will hurt Mika’s game. Hurt our powerplay hurt our left side mortally hurt our possession metrics which are already bad. Leave us softer and slower and without a net front presence whatsoever in the lineup. When teams are desperate to get a player like this and they are, you don’t let them go.

The Kreider trade talk might as well be tank talk and not just for this year. Probably for multiple years. Be lucky if Mika even wants to stay here when his contract is up if this is what we’re going to continue to do and tear down around him

This is how I feel. With Kreider not here next year, it's going to harder for this team to take the next step. More pressure gets put on Kakko and Kravtsov. I believe paying Kreider is better value for this team than paying any one of Strome, Buchnevich or Fast.
