If the lowest Kreider will accept is 7x7 (likely with some sort of NMC), do you...

  • Trade him

  • Sign him

  • Rent him for the playoffs and let him walk as a UFA

A prospect, though maybe.

As we’ve seen, the players that people on this board like, aren’t necessarily who the Rangers like. And, if the Rangers are sitting at 9, knowing they’ll get a player they like, aren’t likely to move up to get a player people on this board likes.

For example, the Rangers didn’t move up just because Zadina dropped to 6th. They knew a player they liked was going to be there at 9. That’s exactly what could happen this draft.

So the rangers beat Winnipeg one night and get their HC an extension the next day. Two nights later they beat Minny and get their coach fired.

Couple that with this draft being particularly deep. So there is even less likely of a chance Gorton moves multiple assets to move up a few spots when they could arguably get just as good of a player, maybe better over the course of their careers, sitting tight at where they are and holding onto extra picks/assets.

We are the coach killer and job savior. I really would like minnys coach instead of ruff. Would completely change our d system for the matter imo and woukd be an absolute coup

Boudreau will get yet another HC gig. Only way he comes here is if he is replacing DQ, not Ruff.

Boudreau is a loser through and through. Keep him the hell away from this team.

how do we know this draft is sooo deep? Not picking on you while your post heightened my curiosity. I’ve read it elsewhere too, not just here.

Based on tankathon, which isn’t the Holy Grail, I would think more players would be in Tier 2 while the Tiers quickly default to “the rest” pretty quickly. With the kids being so young, how do they know this year is so much better than other years?

Another factor is that people are putting too much emphasis on the draft, when the reality is that the Rangers are transitioning to a point where it’s more important to add NHL-ready talent to the current team as it starts to contend. Why use an asset to move up from 9/10 to 5/6, when that asset could be used to add the right young player the augments the current team with greater impact? The draft is still important, but Fox is going to end up costing the Rangers two 2nds. Anybody still hesitant to make that trade?

5 games left before the deadline including tonight.

When do the Rangers sit Kreider and/or others out? Against the Canes & Sharks? Just the Sharks? Neither?

If I recall correctly they did sit down Nash (and Grabner I believe) for a game or two leading up to the deadline.

But we have tried, and failed, on other occasions to move up. We tried to move up in 2017. We tried to get into the 1st round to pick Keller in 2016 and we tried again last year to get another top 10 pick.

We don't know what the Rangers' board is going to look like. In 2018, they were happy to sit at 9 and take Kravtsov because they had him rated higher. This year, they may have someone that they really want who projects to go before their pick, and if so, they might try to trade up to get him.

Fox was an interesting case. Those NHL ready young guys are seldom moved like that. Getting a Hayes or Fox at that point of their careers is much more exception than rule or everyone would do it.

Agreed. And while it contains a ton of moving parts, are the Rangers really going to give up a developing asset(s) just to start the clock over on an 18 year old?

This may not be the sexiest of opinions, but the Rangers really need to start targeting NHL ready 3rd/4th liners that take pride in bottom 6 assignments. A Panarin/Zibanejad/Kakko combination in the future provides the highest level of talent the team has had in a long time and allows for much flexibility in the top 6 (see Strome, Ryan). Depth is paramount and, as strange as it sounds, some of that depth needs to understand their 3rd/4th line ceilings and embrace those sorts of assignments.

They are def lacking that heavy hard nosed north and south element That is crucial in the playoffs. With that said, you still have to go BPA in round 1.
