If the lowest Kreider will accept is 7x7 (likely with some sort of NMC), do you...

  • Trade him

  • Sign him

  • Rent him for the playoffs and let him walk as a UFA

When did he get hurt? He scored the game-tying goal with about 5:00 left in the 3rd period tonight.

Edit: looks like he was injured. Must've happened after the goal. That sucks, lol.

He skated hard trying to score the game winner at the end and fell into the boards behind the net. He tried to move his skates out of the way of the boards but only got one out of the way. He couldn't put any weight on his one leg and had to be helped off the ice.

I think we saw a bit of what some bigger bodied forwards can do over a single game last night. Greenway was a difficult player for the defense to handle. If this team is serious about contending in the near future, they should look to add 1-2 guys who can play and add some size and strength to the forward group. Specifically when/if Kreider is dealt. Over a long playoff series it does make a difference.

Still waiting for what KK does so great . Have not heard one person say he skates great or has an elite shot . Fact he has neither . I am not saying he’s not going to get better but penciling him on to fill CK Producton as a first line wing is ridiculous . The guy can barely take a 40s shift without looking like he’s going to blow chunks on the bench after . At 22-23 I’m sure he’s going to be a diff player but do you think all of a sudden his skating which is questionable is going to miraculously become elite . So please explain to me how he’s going to become a legit all star besides hype and draft position

Doubling down, eh?

Never said KK IS A bust . But I do feel that he is no where near replacing what CK brings to the rangers . At 23-24 probably but his skating , strength and shot are not elite NHL level and the only reason he’s in the league right now is draft position . He should be in the AHL and he def needs a lot of improvement on his shot and skating . He’s downright slow there’s no two ways about it and can’t play with NHL PACE right now .
I’m not the one who’s saying the rangers are gong to be better next year without CK and penciling KK AND VK in the top 6 . That’s lottery pick material top 6 .

Whoa there.

I didn't say the Rangers would be better next year.

Everything I've said has been about 2-3 years from now.

Then you went off on a tangent about "how is KK going to replace Kreider because KK is the worst player in the league."

KK will surpass Kreider's historical production in the next year or two. Kravtsov most likely will as well. Trading Kreider now boosts our pick this year (which is currently dropping lower and lower with every win, sadly, since the playoffs are not gonna happen). But if we get another top pick next year, so much the better.

In 2-3 years this team is going to be entering a period of league dominance, if we can get one or two more top players. Keeping Kreider doesn't really move the needle in that direction substantially. We know what he is. He has never, ever moved his team or even his line towards elite levels.

He's a nice player but he's gonna be off the power play and likely not in the top-6 in terms of ice time very soon (2-3 years). If I could give him a 3 year deal, sign me up. But since I can't.... he's worth way more in trade than he is hamstringing the team for the next 7 seasons.

So I am going to copy and paste this from something I wrote in a PM, but I think it applies most in this thread:

Personally, I'd love to be in the top 5 or 6 for this draft. But, at the same time, you can't force your way into that slot. It's not like we're icing a team with a bunch of vets with no future here in a desperate attempt to make the playoffs and save the jobs of the coach and GM.

We're icing a lot of young players, who are learning, growing and contributing, and that is and was always going to be the primary objective this year. So we can't stop that, nor should we.

Ultimately, I think this team finishes in the 8-12 range, for the draft, as I always have. But everything these young kids are experiencing is VITAL to them and this organization.

But if this team can give itself a chance to experience what the excitement of "hunting" for success feels like, and then still come away with Lundell at say, 10th overall, sign me up every single day of the week.

If I were Sakic I’d be doing damn near anything to win it this season. They’re ready

he won’t

I hope the Rangers display more patience and don’t cave to a subpar offer. I feel Yzerman beat the Rangers in that McDonough/Miller deal and I’m concerned Sakic will do the same.

Ok I figured out the deadline and off season. Bern eat your heart out.

Assumptions: sign Krieder approx 6.75 x 7, Strome at approx 5, ADA at approx 5, Lemmy at approx 2.25, buy out Staal

Deadline:
Smith at 50% and Lias to Boston for a 3rd and Hall:
Boston could use a Swiss Army knife like Smith, Thier C core is aging and Lias is more ready than Hall who has better upside. We shed Smith for 2020-1.

Skjei and Fast (50%) to STL for a 1st and Kostin (maybe we add a sweetener):
Unfortunate events (Jay B) have left STL needing LD help now for playoffs and with loads of term as most of their D start to roll off. Fast provides reliability up and down the lineup whose game translates well to playoffs. Kostin gives us another young F on an ELC.

Georgie to Chi now or in off season for Nylander:
Both CHI Gs are FAs. Hockey position trade.

2020-1: we weather the 12+ mil dead cap issue, get young F with upside, start finishing the D transition, keep Krieder as the heartbeat and captain. Leaves us with approx 2.5 in space in case Strome and ADA cost a bit more.

Krieder Zibs Buch
Pan Strome Kakko
Krav Chytil Kostin
Lemmy Howton Nylander
Kegger

maybe 1-2 guys start in Hartford, no matter we plug in Kegger and have decent AAAA players or we sign a good 4th line FA at 900k. Good competition up and down F spots.

ADA Trouba
Lindy Fox
Rykov Lundkvist
Hajek

Can ADA handle the shift? Miller and Keane on the horizon, good balance with pairings.

Czar / King

In an era of hockey, skilled players with size are always a prized commodity. That's why parting ways with CK must be careful thought out

I actually think one of the underrated players in the system is Tim Gettinger in terms of his offensive output and what he could bring in the near future in a lower line role. People are, rightfully so, concentrating on skill but this team will need guys who can force turnovers and sustain a forecheck against certain teams. 21 points in 45 games as a sophomore in the AHL.

I'll iterate again, Trent Frederic would be another player like this. Having an eventual checking line of Gettinger-Frederic-Lemieux would have the makings of a formidable and PIA line for most other teams d-corps

Really I think our team is beginning to understand it can be really good. Not going to hit people with a bunch of fancy stats but there are numbers that I would point to like our Win-Loss record within our own division 10-5-0 which is arguably the best division in the league. We're 1 and 1 with the Caps, 1-0 with Pittsburgh, 1-1 with Tampa and 1-0 with Colorado.

We've scored more goals than we've given up +8 and our top 6 forwards are all + players as well as Fox, DeAngelo, Lindgren and Staal. Our defense has 4 guys over 20 points already and at this point in this season that prorates to 35 points and up. The power play is going strong and we already have 9 guys with over 100 shots on goal--Panarin, Zibanejad, Trouba, Kreider, Skjei, DeAngelo, Buchnevich, Strome and Fox and Chytil's on the verge and Kakko's getting close. This point of the season for so many at that number seems like a lot and the Rangers have guys who can finish plays.

Goaltending is not a problem--the defense is very young but making good progress--the offense off the top two lines is very, very good. The third line is kind of alright but there are depth issues at forward which might solve themselves in the next year or two as guys like Lemieux and Howden get better. I expect Chytil and Kakko to be top 6 players.

All that said I don't think we're making this year's playoffs but this team could--maybe even should (with a couple good tweaks) make the playoffs next year. I detect significantly more confidence in this group this year from last year. They play hard and they're getting better. It's very often a fun team to watch.

DQ On Staal "His puck movement has been really good."

Are we sure Quinn isn't the one with one working eye?

yeah, for a full 2 seconds he skated in the correct direction with the puck before tossing it. Good effort, thanks!!
