If the lowest Kreider will accept is 7x7 (likely with some sort of NMC), do you...

  • Trade him

  • Sign him

  • Rent him for the playoffs and let him walk as a UFA

Statistically yes he’s one of the worst as far as his possession stats and plus minus . Look he very well may be a very very good hockey player but I don’t see him being more impactful or important than CK in the near future . Same goes for VK , as a Na / NHL Player hes a long way off . Christ most nights the only thing people positive they say about him at the NHL level is that he Nancy checks a little . Wow great !!! he’s not lighting up the AHL at all and is no where near or deserving of an NHL CALL up . HF boards where magic beans and potential and draft picks mean more than players who are actual first line , play driving players .
You bring up stats to me and then use the eye test for kravtsov and for kakko on other posts....make up your damn mind hahaha

edit: you keep bringing up replacing Kreiders production. At 18 Kreider was playing at bc being an ok college player. At 18 kakko is scoring on nhl goaltenders....

If I were Sakic I’d be doing damn near anything to win it this season. They’re ready

They won’t trade Byram or Newhook. They’ll package Kamenev, and that kid they got from OTT. Those two are on the market.

I have trust in Gorton.

Jeff Gorton Trades - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

He turned a lot of aging or suspect assets into younger, productive ones. The only trades that are suspect to me are

1) the Miller/McDonagh trade, but we have time to see how Hajek, Howden, Nils, and Henriksson turn out and

2) Graves for Bigras, but hindsight is 20/20 and I'm uncertain that Graves would've been as much of a fit/gotten a shot here despite me liking him a lot as a prospect.

Now, a lot of it is in the hands of player development. If Buch can stay consistent and Chytil can take that next step, that is something we really need to get to the next step of the rebuild.

But forwards tend to reach their potential earlier, so building from the net out has been the strategy. Hopefully this draft will help to address the overall quality issues in the forward group throughout the organization.

The Athletic had a good article about Graves. He talked about not knowing his identity during his time with the Rangers. Sometimes he was an offensive player, sometimes a shutdown defender, and sometimes a tough guy. He credits his coach for turning things around.

‘What do you want to do with your career?’” Cronin recalled. “He said, ‘I want to play in the NHL.’ And I said, ‘You’re not going to play in the NHL if you keep making the same mistakes over and over again.’” … I told him, ‘Right now? You’re not that guy. You’ve gotta make sure you focus on the process of getting better defensively and it’s not working right now. If you continue to make mistakes, I am going to have to sit you.’
“He looked at me and he was really upset.”
Graves openly credits this exchange along with what Cronin and his coaching staff did to improve his abilities as the turnaround that has seen him transform into a reliable option who can move the puck, be counted upon in key defensive situations and maintain a spot within the penalty kill.

if you are trying to imply that he got better after leaving here and JG isn't completely to blame, i don't buy it lol

So, unless they feel a contract is going to get done, when you do put Kreider in the press-box? Next Friday at Carolina, next Saturday vs the Sharks or do they risk it, and let him play the last five games before the deadline?

Yeah, Henrik and Staal's buyouts are spread over two years, I just didn't include the second year

Can we formally add the Shatty buyout to the confirmed list of Gorton’s blunders? It’s just insanely difficult to believe he couldn’t get a late pick, or future considerations of some sort for him. I suppose if he could have, he would have, but that cap hit next year is going to have massive ripple effects.

I think you can probably put it more on the all around ineptitude of management around the league that nobody was apparently willing to offer even a late pick for him at 50%.

Getting him off the roster was the right move to free up space on the right side. It’s crazy that no team would take shattenkirk for 2 years at 3.5 per for a middling draft pick. They’ll pay more than that and for a longer term when he signs this summer though.
