Allegations are absolutely not the same as convictions. But until we know either way, lets not sign him to a contract that would then require cap space to get out of. I did say potential piece of shit, implying that if they're found true, then yes he's a piece of shit.

I largely agree with the above, but I will point out that if local authorities didn’t charge him, that won’t change after the results of a civil suit, which typically take years and operate under a completely different standard of evidence and proof.

then we have to pay Kakko, Kravtsov and Lafreniere. If they have breakout years, that will be costly.

I really don’t see Chytil coming in at $4-5m per season. Maybe $2.5-3m on a 2 year bridge.

Would you give Shesty a 5x6M deal? or 6x6?

I’d go long term. 6 years at $5-5.5m per season.

So this statement is true. But would I rather have:

Dvorak or Danault + 1st + Jones

That’s a tougher decision.

I really like the idea of Danault. Guys like him who are stalwarts defensively generally age pretty well. Their smarts and positioning will stay with them as they age. I like the idea that he’s ‘free’ in terms of asset cost as well. Overpaying UFA’s is okay if you back-fill other spots with cheap ELC’s. The deals that make NO SENSE to me are when teams give up huge asset packages and then sign guys to huge extensions. Like the Seth Jones trade is horrific in so many ways.

This may be small potatoes but a guy I’m really intrigued about is Derek Ryan from Calgary. Plays center and wing. 4th liner for sure but he’s 34 and probably looking at a 1-2 year deal. Adds some flexibility to the lineup and he’s a useful depth forward. He’s also pretty gritty.

I really like the idea of a Strome for Greig basis for a deal although I’m not sure if he would be made available.

Finally, what I think has been the most evident this offseason is that the defenseman market is much hotter than the forwards. It’s completely clear that teams are seeing a scarcity there that isn’t present in terms of forwards. This is unfortunate when the team is trying to trade Strome and Buch but it is what it is.

The problem is that Chytil likely won't get an 8 year deal (although i happen to think that decision might bite us in the ass), but he's prob gonna get a 2-3 million because hes shown improvement every year.

Chytil isn't small, and can definitely play a physical game if he's given the opportunity/coaching on how to play that way more.

If we are looking at a stopgap, let's go for a veteran D. Not Zadorov who is demanding the biggest contract of his career. He has done one 2 year, and two 1 year contracts after his ELC. I'm sure he wants a longer deal now.

With any of these guys, the question will be about downstream roles and cap hits. It's gonna be tricky enough to get Fox, Kakko, Lafreniere, and others locked up long term down the road. Can only spend so much on role players.

I mentioned Stastny before, but I'd be open to a lot of the veteran C options- Krejci, Getzlaf, etc provided they only sign for one year.

I really would prefer to go the dvorak route at this point if eichel isnt happening. I am really not wanting to invest the money and term in danault, but if everyone around the league is placing huge value on centers in trades than we may have no option but to sign danault if they want to make a significant change at center for next year. I just cant see anyway that they come back with the three of zib/strome/chytil
