for some reason I expect William Carrier to be a Ranger by the draft weekend is over. he played for Gallant and the type of players they need in the bottom 6

So everyone loses their shit for overpaying Goodrow by 500k but wants to bridge Igor instead of locking him up and potentially saving 2-3M a year in cap space?
We’ll see how much Goodrow is overpaid when we’re retaining salary and adding picks to move the contract.

$6M AAV would be the max I would go to lock him up long term, but I would still do it. I’m pretty confident he’s a top 10 goalie talent in the league. If we sign him 2 years at 3M and he strings together a couple .930 seasons then he’s going to be asking for 7-8M a year.

I expect it to be in the Demko range if they do sign him to a long term deal

There's either going to be very little turnaround or huge turnaround of the roster with what Vince tweeted and what Servalli has said.

I would be ok with Carrier. But I think outside of Coleman and Foligno, every other bottom 6 option should be signed for bargain bin money. $1-$2 million max. If Carrier doesn’t slot in there then move onto the next one.

Hard to envision a scenario where trading Buch and/or Strome makes the team better this upcoming season. I don't think the Rangers have better internal options and no one is acquiring those guys in exchange for better NHLers. It would be for futures. Do they trade those guys and then go out and acquire a guy like Eichel? That would be a blockbuster.

Strome only goes out if someone else comes in I'm pretty sure AT LEAST until the TDL.

Only speaking for myself...I'd rather find a new goalie than commit $6M+ let alone the $8-9M+ you are suggesting he may cost down the road. Generally don't believe in committing that much cap to the position, barring a Vezina level season.

Obviously if we are skipping the bridge we are not going to be paying him 8-9mm. That's the whole point of skipping the bridge. I do think he would come in at 5-6mm per on a 5-6 year right now, which I think makes a lot of sense for both parties.

That's pretty much the going rate for a decent, not elite starter, which Shesty already is. And we have a lot of upside there.

Yeah, I can see them acquiring a guy like Eichel first, then moving Strome. But to move Strome first would be reckless and put them in a poor negotiating posture while shopping for a replacement. Chytil is not a 2C in 2021-22.

I hate the idea of getting another pick just to add to the Eichel return. Just give a package and let them figure out their own picks. The guy needs neck surgery for gods sake
This would be the draft to do it though. I’d prefer we keep our first next season. That could be a deep 1st rd high end talent wise

I'm pretty ambivalent-to-pro Eichel but yeah, it does look from the outside like the org is chasing those guys out and it's not great. I kind of hope it's for futures because late bloomer winger and flaky journeyman center who basically only scores points, both without term on the contract - are those the players people are going to trade top NHLers for?
