These rumor Mongolians (or whatever epithet they go by) are all dreamers. If it was me I would shoot down everything and be tight 10x as often.

“Very surprised by all the action surrounding Seattle before the ED. I talked to a source with connections in the Seattle organization who said that there might not even be a single trade made this time.”

Then just repeat it. Whenever a player like Eichel will be traded “guaranteed”, I would say the opposite. Belief is that no trade will be made, but they are of course fishing for an offer but odds are low for it to happen.

You know, selecting a goalie could be a good thing in one very specific way. If we are entering our cup contention within the next 2-3 seasons, we will likely stay there 2-5 years or more. In 2-3 seasons, the team may have a lot of talent to pay and wouldn't it be great if we had another elite goalie on an ELC during that window instead of paying Shesty 6-7m? From a team building cap perspective having another young goalie who is ready to play in 3 years and will only make ELC money into year 5 might be a smart move.

I am of the belief you take the BPA in the first round. You never pick for need in the first round. especially mid-round when the picks are likely a few seasons away from going AHL/NHL. So, if the choice is middle six center, future #1 goalie, I think I lean goalie. I'd rather have the elite talent and figure out what to do with it when I have too much. After the first when the draft becomes a crapshoot, then all things equal I'm picking with the idea we need more center depth in the organization.

One thing that we keep hearing over and over again with forward prospects is this "is he a wing or a center at the NHL" question. It's an endless question for so many kids drafted as centers. And so many turn into wings. Look at Chytil. Is he a wing or a C? We STILL don't know and he was drafted in 2017 as a C. Drafting a C to fill an organizational need in the mid first round is really hard -- you could just be drafting yet another good/decent winger. So, if the goalie is elite. And not just good/pretty good/great. But someone with unanimous praise. You gotta strongly consider the goalie.

Finally -- the only goalie prospect that may have legit #1 goalie after Shesty is maybe Garand. Wall, Huska, Georgy are all backups likely. We do need something else legit in the pipeline in the next few years. This idea that Shesty is the next Hank and will play for us for the next decade is a highly suspect assumption. Shesty looks good but he has not proven he's that kind of guy yet for us. And even if he turns out to be in the stratosphere as Hank, can we afford to pay him in 3 years if we have Laf, Kakko, Panarin, Fox, Miller, Lundkvist, etc etc.

Nedeljkovic just signed for 3M as an RFA. Driedger a bit over 3M as a UFA. Mike Smith 2M. Bernier and others will come very cheaply. There is really no reason for us to be spending a huge amount on a goalie.

today better be packed with moves. I’m really disappointed we haven’t done much of anything.

I'd rather we do a lot of nothing than a bad trade for Eichel tbh.

Just hoping for a small deal like Strome for veteran LD today. MAYBE a deal with Seattle for the 2nd overall. Hoping they don't deal the first round pick for someone entirely mediocre.

well this is the time but remember ufa day will be nuts and trades occur when teams strike out

I fully expect a LD and C brought in
Plus a bottom 6 to team w Goodrow

ADA buy out needs to happen by the 27th, there was no reason to not at least leave him exposed in case he was picked. I think they need a day to pass him through unconditional waivers, so the timing is about right.

Would FLA move Bennett? He'd be a nice compliment piece in our top6. If we continue with the Tampa example, he can be similar to what Killorn provides.

Yeah, I couldn't tell with him. It was either in 2 years or 3 years. Does he have to be 27 to be a UFA or is it the season he turns 27?

It's when there age 27 season is. Last season was his age 25 season, next is age 26 and the following his age 27. After that season he'd be a UFA, if I've read the CBA correctly lol

but the CBA stipulates you have to be 27years old ( or 7 years experience ), no? In July 2023 he will be 26.

That's why I dont know.
