Buch for Thomas+
Strome for Soucy + 2nd
Draft Svechkov

Stay the course

*look to add more vet leadership and another banger as the 12/13th forward

Don't love Strome for Soucy but I can live with this since it's nothing dramatic.

Thomas isn't my preferred target for Buch but it's not terrible.

I'd be interested to know cap percentage comparisons.

go look at how many teams have won a Cup with a 10 mil player this past decade. Then look how many have won with 2

flat cap never going to happen with 3 and then think about two dmen making probably 20 mil combined when Fox contract is done

I mean without knowing the medical prognosis...

HOW THE f*** IN GOD'S HOLY NAME CAN WE WANT THIS GUY?!?!?!?!

You would think if that is true then it doesn't seem like Buffalo is intent on trading him, or at least trading him to NY, any time soon.

Nils' value has skyrocketed since selection though.
Schneider's value has gone up since being drafted too. He had a good season in the W. If he were in another team's system he would be their best prospect, we'd all be foaming at the mouth if this was 2014 or something. We just kind of take him for granted him because our system is so stacked.

He's a bonafide blue chip prospect.

Raw numbers aren't really that important, it's percentage of cap.

Speaking of the Rangers, would new coach Gerard Gallant have any influence or interest in attempting to pluck one of Jonathan Marchessaultor Reilly Smith out of Vegas? Both are available.

Wait what??

Sure. We can afford to give up Fox, Laf ++++++++ for McDavid.

Sure.
It was a sarcastic remark. McDavid is not available either.

Barkov is their captain, he enjoys it in Florida and the team just had their best season in a while. He's not going anywhere.

C'mon, you know the flat number of $10m 10 years ago is not the same as $10m now.

For all the hand wringing about the cap and avoiding becoming the next Toronto, just FYI, Eichel's $10m per year is less than all 3 of Toronto's big 3 forwards (and $1.6m per year less than Matthews).

The same 5 people posting/responding with the same comments regarding Eichel over and over and over....

Truth is, these centers don't come around very often. There's huge risk involved, but there is a price out there that makes sense for NYR. It's all about what the cost is. Medical speculation on this board is all just noise and garbage. As if Drury is going to risk his career as a GM without doing the medical due diligence.

At the same time, isn’t it a fact that these guys have had zero success in the POs the last 15 years? Since when can you do well in the POs with size and center? Everyone was writing down Winnipeg as a Cup winner for a few years after the first round and then when they face better teams their size at center becomes a burden. Nashville after they got RyJo? Now they can’t give him away.

For me it just comes down to this, break down the job description for a center in today’s NHL. Put it in bullet points. How many of those pts are benefitted from size and how many from quickness, ability to take away ice fast, hard work? For me it would be very illogical if someone 6’4 had an advantage over someone 5’11 at center. Totally illogical. If you play 20 minutes, for 30 sec you benefit from being big and 19:30 from being quick. Wing? Ds? Their job description is totally different. Size at D? All kinds of argument can be made there. Same with a few wingers.

And that logical argument get all kind of possible support from the reality.

The above is of course a super binary argument in a world of hockey that is anything but binary. But on this very topic, it’s hard to not come to the above conclusions.

My concern is, would we with Eichel and Mika be strong or very weak down the middle in a head to head with say the center lineup Tampa had this POs? Point, Gourde, Cirelli and Johnson?

I can see Tampa back down and then blitz us on the counter attack. Eichel and Mika needing all kind of space to get going. When I look around the league, these centers do great against weaker teams and then disappear against the better teams, in large.

Isn’t it time that we start to look for players that are good in the POs like Gourde and co? Real winners? Tremendously speedy hard working players.

The average size of a center on a cup winning team the last 2 years is what, 5’9?
Literally no one can beat Tampa, by the time we're competing they'll be on the downswing. They already lost Gourde, gonna lose Coleman. McDonagh will slow down eventually, Hedman already past his peak it appears. Stamkos is slowing down. etc.

i wouldn't argue against this... if there is another top C worth pursuing

and if the center isn’t there or the price is too high, what is the hurry? The roster is loaded, they have Zibby, Strome and Chytil already. They’re adding grit and kids are maturing. What’s the hurry? October hockey?

It appears Minnesota is the only team that has made an actual "offer" for Eichel if what I heard from Dreger is right lol

We weren't getting anything for Strome unfortunately. It's like getting a late 1st rounder

For some reason teams don't value him. It's most likely because he's not a playmaker, just benefits from playing with Breadman. It's similar to Vlad who benefited from playing on the Stamkos line in Tampa, yet we got hosed by Yzerman again.
