also: heres a possible route the rangers could go to get cam compliant.... hudon seems to have fallen out of favor in montreal and he is a good (cheap) enough return for strome imo. i personnaly don't get all the strome hate. on twitter many hate him for his high shooting % with nyr, but it just averaged out his low one in edm. BUT, we need to move out salary, and he should be moveable in a deal like this. as for mtl, this makes sense to me because they always seem to be needing centers, and strome would give them a better chance of making playoffs than hudon (just sneaking in playoffs always seems to be the goal of molson and bergevin)
names is another player that is a prime cnadidate to be moved becasue of his overpayment. in this deal, ottawa gets a useable player, while also pays out less salary this year. good ol eugene melnyk. for nyr, macarthur can be placed on LTIR and therefore allow the rangers to exceed the cap this year.
also, i'm assuming fox will start in minors, but he does not need to. i was thinking he starts year in minors, and if rangers find a deal for shattenkirk early, he gets called up, if not, he gets called up at deadline anyways (whether shattenkirk is dealt or not) as nyr bite the bullet and will could buyout shatty next summer (or deal him at deadline, while fox plays less than 30 games so condition is not met in trade). i think rangers could ride out smith contract this way, or atleast lesser the impact of a buyout next summer.
rangers can also keep kreider in this scenario, possibly trade him as rental, keep him as self rental, or resign. the could also trade him anyways for a good return if it's there before season. an idea of a good return for me is a budding young forward who can't contribute like kreider right now, but could meet/surpass his production in another year or 2 (would be a deal with a team looking to contend)
