Imagine giving this trash bag of a site money when they can’t keep it together for something as simple as that trade

I will say a brief prayer for the servers tonight.

I noticed that Mandatory.com and other Evolve sites were also down sporadically. It definitely wasn't the trade.
Mandatory was down for me when I decided to check this morning (making sure HF wasn't killed off). They were down for hours. Apparently all the sites under the Mandatory umbrella were down. Either something went seriously wrong with their servers, or it was something like a DDoS. I retract my initial complaints.

There is no insurance on the contract. I am not sure if the bonus has been paid out. I had heard he was a $3MM ticket if he was moved.

Still, the Leafs bought a pick nd dumped a contract they no longer wanted for money. Nice thinking.

There is insurance on the contract according to the athletic

Yeah that's always kind of the BS part of the cap and CBA arguments...taems cry poor but then immediately try to find ways to spend as much moeny as possible or circumvent the stuff they put in place, then complain about it

yep and each time the players cave and give up everything...and then fast forward every year and the deal is unfair for the teams rinse, repeat

I'm sure the owners will get rid of LTIR if that's what the players want.

Trading for LTIR player contracts should be cap circumvention.

a team trading for a 'fake' salary to get to the cap floor is circumvention but I'm failing to see how toronto benefits from this move other than getting a draft pick?

LTIR doesn't give you cap space, it lets you go over the cap. Toronto now has $10.55 mil on LTIR, but they can only take advantage of that full amount if there roster excluding those guys is $81.5 mil...right now without those 2 they are at $73,109,699. So if they start the season like that they will be allowed to put $2,159,699 on LTIR and the rest of it hits their cap and leaves them with $0 of cap space.

obviously when they sign marner they will be at the upper limit and the majority of the $$ will end up on LTIR but it is giving them $0 of additional cap space to get marner signed
