Along the lines of my disdain for trading for Eichel...when you have a history of head/neck injuries you will shy away from contact. Ziba used to be physically engaged then 3 or so concussions in 2 years will make you gun shy.

That's fair. I just feel like if he wasn't going to engage in anything after the Wilson incident and the team getting blasted about it for two days before the next game, then he will struggle with the physical nature of the playoffs.

Zibs is the poster boy for the softness of the team last year. Doesn't utilize that 6'2 215 pound frame much at all, and notably didn't care to get involved physically after the Wilson game. Even Strome dropped the gloves...

I genuinely wonder if I'm watching the same games as some of you. Complaining about Zib being soft. I bet you want Eichel too.

I don’t want my 1C dropping the gloves. Fractured wrist and season might be over. One more concussion and it could be Rangers Ljndros 2.0.

It's about having a pulse, and a bit of emotion, when required. Not about it being a habit. I'm sure others noticed Zibanejad's disinterested approach in the Wilson game and the one afterwards.

That Nurse contract actually happened? Bettman has to step in and nix that contract lol.

Its also about being smart. What panarin did while passionate was absolutely stupid. You dont have your 11m player fight. The risks outweigh the reward in any scenario.

I don’t completely disagree, but 1C’s don’t grow on trees. Who was our last true top C? Messier? Gretzky? What’s the option? Dump him? I don’t think he plays the game soft in general. I can’t remember the last time Barzal or Backstrom dropped the gloves either.

First off, this was a great play. I loved it. But that doesn't prove the opposite. Zib gave a well timed push, after a light slash to get Dillon a bit off balance, to get Dillon off the puck. Zib was in no danger of taking a hit, nor going to a dirty area there.

I'm not talking about it being a regular occurrence. If that whole situation didn't elicit a natural human response and some kind of desire to jump in for your team, I just don't think anything will. It makes me wonder about how high that compete level can go when we are looking to go on a deep playoff run.

1.

So now he concussion thing is a problem? Funny you wanted him to mix it up despite that.

Why would it be a separate problem and not part of the reason he is soft? Regardless of the reasoning behind avoiding physical situations, I do think the same trepidation for not wanting to mix it up when your teammates are getting roughed up could be the same reason he might not put his body on the line in tight playoff game situations. I'm not sure he'd be able to handle the grind, and he's about to get a lot of $ for a long time. It's quite a commitment.

Lol I hope Zib never has to get involved with after the whistle scrums

I'd rather him keep dunking multi-point games on teams, than sitting in the box

Erik Christensen was our last true #1C, mostly because Boo didn’t get the call

I don’t see Zibanejad as a heart and soul leader, but he’s a good guy who plays hard. Funny how things change - at various points we’ve had different people calling for him to be named captain (not me).
