For the sixth year in a row, the Avs complete a trade for an RFA (Grubauer, Burakovsky, Toews, Lehkonen*, Georgiev, Colton).

Big fan of the trade, big fan of the player. Colton only averaged 12 minutes per night in 2022-2023, largely playing LW on a line with Nick Paul. I expect Colorado will use him as a center, and also expect an increase in his 32 point output as his ice time goes up.

So we get a cheap asset at a position of need for a draft pick that even for us was gotten rid of quickly (we had it less than 24 hours, damn we hate 2nd rounders!), and if we want we can delay until next year the RFA decision on a young center, and he's definitely a center and brings more to us than Newhook probably ever could.

What kind of a player is Colton? What roles he can play, is he speedy, how's his IQ?
