I would have preferred something like 5 x $3.5M or something like that but I'm glad he'll be here for the next 4 years at least.

I think he's going to get more of an opportunity here than he did in TB.

So, after they sign Meyers to about $900k - $1M, they'll have just under $2M left in cap space.

Yeah. Meyers should only get $900k and then they would have $1.9M left. Or, they freaking bury MacDermid and use Hunt/Malinski as the extra D then they'd have $2M left.

I know he's a polarizing player but I really think Tatar would suplement the forward group extremely well for next year. Give him 1x$2M and go into the year with:

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Mikko
Wood - Colton - Tatar
Cogs - Meyers - LOC
Olofsson

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Johnson - Girard
Malinski/Hunt

George/Frank

Good.
Time for him to step up to that contract then now. Needs to provide that 3c role in a good manner + fill in top6 when needed.
Seems 4mil was the max the Avs wanted to pay.

My hope was $3.8M X 5, so this is pretty close. Slightly worse than I hoped, but nothing to get upset about.

I think he’ll easily live up to the contract, as he moves into a larger role in Colorado.

Ya I'm more excited at the domino effect this will provide. Probably 500K too rich for this season, but I would rather him at 4x4 than 3.5x2. Fine deal.

What will really tell me what the staff thinks of this team will be the next move(s) to come. Excited to see who they target.

Given the options I'd still rather target a guy via trade I think than sign a guy like Tatar. I wouldn't mind a 4th liner at league min to add more depth (like a White) but don't see both happening. Send Olausson to a rebuilding team for 50% retention on a top 9 guy making under 4M

I still believe that there is a trade coming that is going to free up some space.
I really don't think so, but I'd love to be wrong on that. Finding a way to grab one of the Flyers forwards supposedly available would be sweet.
Who is the best "swiss army" type out there?
Laughton by a mile IMO.

He'd be such a good 3C here, then you could move Colton to the wing where I think he'd be even better for us.

I'm thinking that they know that having a guy making $3.85 - $5M on the bottom pair left side isn't ideal so maybe they flip a LD for a solid yet unspectacular bottom pairing guy making around $2M will free up enough space to get a true Top-6 guy.

I don't thinking banking on Drouin making a top-6 impact is a smart way to go but if you have a guy like Drouin as a player who can potentially fill-in on the top-6 in case of injuries then I think the Avs would be in good shape.

So for me, the move would be to get an established Top-6 player instead of a Top-9 guy because that's more of the same as we had last year.

Wait... speaking of which did we just sign Ross Colton to the same deal as Rodrigo Rodrigues except 1 year longer???
