Mailloux looks good when skating with it, calm and powerful. Nice wrister also I must say. He and Trudeau were real good. Prospects are “back“ loaded for sure.

Gotta be one of the worst player monikers ever concocted in here. That’s just what we like to do.
Is it that difficult for people with english as a first language to pronounce a "R" sound followed by a "W" sound? Or are people lazy? R-wa.

Reminds of the announcers who used to say LOND-QWIST instead of Lounde-qvist. Thank god for Pierre Houde who actually researches names, even those of random 4th liners.

Me too, I was rooting for Leonard, glad someone here agrees with me lol. You are the only one
I wanted the physical winger.

Backed in '22, I would have weakened the team and went for Bedard. By not making trades like Dach trade, among other moves. I want the star offensive center. Knowing the top of draft was stacked with 4 #1 centers. I would have got one. Likely Fantilli. Giving me Cooley and Fantilli down middle. One of them would make Caufield lethal. Probably drafted Kemell at 13. He be A second line winger most likely. Probably took Ty Nelson with other pick we gave up. Seen a game, he's got some decent hands, looks stocky built to handle physicality.

The stud Defenseman I would focus on this draft. Where its loaded with several future top pairings. Making my top 4 on D, Guhle Dickinson, Mailloux, Barron.

You have a point. You have to take what the draft gives you. Contrarians lose.

Best player on the ice was Trudeau imo…
I hope Habs will treat him fairly. There is so many left handed d men in this org.

Why are you talking about pick #13. If you don't get Dach, you don't get #13. Can you wait a bit before throwing Slaf and Reinbacher to garbage ?

My top most ready prospect based sorely on these 3 games:

1-Trudeau
2-Roy
3-Reinbacher

HM: Beck & Heineman

And he’ll probably be at the same tournament next year :)

That's fine. He's a work in progress. One more year in the O and then a year and half in the AHL then he'll be ready to join his big bro.

Mailloux has been a cut above the other players so far both offensively and defensively. ...this game gives you an excellent glimpse of Mailloux’s potential. Its what I saw last season on a regular basis and so reported.

Loads of talent but still see him make some bad reads and see him get confused unlike steady Reinbacher. Mailloux I believe doesn't have low IQ, he just needs more miles in him. A season and a half in the A should do the trick.

We need goal scorers.

Caufield is our only legit sniper. I like these young forward prospects we have but I think they all need real time in the AHL.

Best player on the ice was Trudeau imo…

Trudeau may force our hand like RHP. If we get hit by injuries and Trudeau's still rock solid in the A he'll get the call up and watch out... he'll be impossible to send back down.

Yeah, nice to see noone hurt this time (knock on wood).

Roy just shows how effective he can be with better players. So good on loose pucks, positionning is very good, small plays often are the smart play. We call these guys spiders, they see the whole web and are ready to pounce (and Roy has the skills to do it). I was high on the kids and his progression to a more rounded player with better skating during the last season is showing he has prepared to be a pro. Some AHL time will help but he's shown it's just a matter of time until he's in the top 6. Can't wait to see him at the big camp.

Kudo on Mesar, he really came out this game. Looks like he was not ready to play that level of hockey in the last games but he recalibrated and shows he's much more comfortable as a center than a winger. Good on him. All hope is not lost. I believe AHL will be better for him than junior. He seems to needs the challenge.

Reinbacher is getting used to small ice, he plays clean and gets his markers. At one point he'll be confident about time/space on the smaller surface and start blooming the offensive support side in this new (to him) context.

Mailloux is very different where small D plays are not his forte although it was much better this game, but he's an offensive stud with authority for sure and this is sooo hard to coach... loved what i've seen from these 2 guys.

Trudeau still looked good, so did Strubble. Consolidating their rating as legit prospects with a shot at the big league in a bottom pairing.

Tourigny could play as a forward if the D in laval is overflowing. He's got spunk!

Laouan looked good for a pick-up for Laval.

I dunno for you guys but i was reealy craving for hockey and although still hungry that made for an appreciable snack in lean times ;) what's best is now that this is done, we'll just get more and better! Yay.

I have no illusions that we'still be low ranking but at least we have something to look for. Will RHP continue to be all he can be? Will Roy get a couple games to start the season? Can Heineman complete real nhl players? Will Dach keep on rising and win some faceoffs? Man has Dynasty got anything over this soap opera of the last 2 seasons! Ha!

Short version: yes it's difficult for them.

Long version: When I was in Cégep decades ago, my English teacher didn't like pronouncing my surname because it had 2 'r' in it. She explained English speakers have issues doing the throat 'R' sound we do in French because it doesn't exist in English.

Also, the Wawa is actually -ua Wa, it's from a commentator who said Joshua Roy (Wa) super fast.

Mysak making it happen... maybe Houle's not as dumb as he looks...

I think it was a bit foolish for Mysak to head to WJC in the summer after a long CHL playoff run up to the Memorial Cup where he was playing injured.

I get why he did it (he was their Captain too) but I don't think he had time to recover and prepare for his 1st pro season and he never got any momentum going. Happy for him as he was always praised as someone with a great work ethic & "lead by example" leadership which Laval will need.

Some of my thoughts after game 3 :

Mailloux : Easily his best game of the tournament. Hit the post twice on strong wrist shots, had a goal stolen by the goaltender, showed his passing skills in the offensive zone and didn’t look out of place in his zone. He has so many high end tools, he just needs to clean his decision making and play some games.

Reinbacher : Good game for him, still a bit shy. It feels like he’s trying to make no mistake and impress, which is understandable. It’s rare to see such a young defensemen with good decision making who doesn’t panic. Most the game he was able to strip players of the puck with his stick and positioning.

Struble : I think he was solid in both his games. There’s nothing flashy about him, he plays a simple game that’s pretty effective. Skating was good and his assessments on the ice was the same. I didn’t really believe in his chances to make it, but his play in the AHL last year and his performance in those two games show potential. With his tools and physical play he could find a way.

Trudeau : An other good game for him. I think he’s better on the offensive side of things. He skates well in open spaces and seems to have a good read on offensive plays. It will interesting to see him in a pre-season game or two and how he reacts in his zone and on the boards.

Tourigny : He’s an offensive dynamo, I definitely think he should be on Laval’s first PP wave with Mailloux on the other side. He’s an adventure on both side of the puck, and will struggle in his zone but if he can create offense no one will care (at least at the AHL level). Created two penalties because of how elusive in was in the offensive zone. I doubt he reaches the NHL, but for where he was picked, it’s definitely worth it. He’ll help create offense in Laval and the kids will be beneficiaries of that.

Roy : Good game, created a lot of offense with his smart play. You could see players on the powerplay giving him the puck because he was finding open lanes. Had a good shot that ended on the post.

Beck : He missed a great chance from Roy, even if it might have been a bit behind him, but I thought he was solid. This kid is so conscious of the defensive side of the game, it’s crazy. He was the first one behind the net to retrieve a puck after starting in the offensive zone. The amount of ice he covers is something. Really happy with his play, this kid will play a key role in the future and he barely lost any faceoff again.

Farrell : Sometimes it feels like he’s trying to di too much. He has the skills and the smarts but he needs to execute at a faster pace. If not, players will just put too much pressure on him and box him out. It happened a lot this game. He understands the game, but will be held back by the pace till he can adapt to it. Hopefully a season in the AHL will help.

Mesar : His best performance. He was pretty quiet till the end of the second period where he got a massive shift. That’s what you want to see out of him, it needs to be done on a constant basis if he wants to make it. Good wins on some important draws and he’s at his best when he makes quick passes and goes into open space. Set up Roy with a massive chance in front of net and won good battles in the third.

Xhekaj : Good performance, he was implicated in battles and scrums after every whistle. He can also show some poise with the puck and made a great pass to Laaouan which created Mysak’s goal. Also created a penalty while deking a Sens player at the blue-line. If he can grow into his body and drive the net, he could make it on a fourth line.

Kidney : His best game, clearly playing with guys who could win battles and open space for him gave him time to show some of his attributes. He really needs to get stronger, because he losses too many battles for the puck. Clearly he understands where he needs to be on the ice and goes to those places but he’s just not strong enough to come out with the puck.

McKay : This guy has no business being this good. A third game in a row where he’s all over the ice. The most impressive was to see him slow the pace down when he had the puck and find open lanes (I don’t if it was just me or if everyone saw that). He stopped a sure goal midway through the third by tying up a Sens player around the net, won his battles on the board and fought a guy with 7inches on him. Lots of heart, he should definitely be in the AHL, they will need a player like him with the infusion of prospects coming in. He needs to tone down the shit stirring though.

Mysak : Third game in a row where he’s the hardest working player on the ice. I’m happy for him, and I do hope he gets a chance on an offensive line this season. If he hustles like that every shift, he’ll reap the rewards as shown by his second goal in as many games. Best part was to see him tell players where to stand on the ice before the face off, which he won. Lots of heart and leadership.

Parker-Jones : I like him. He clearly improved compared to last year and can play multiple positions. I hope he becomes a permanent fixture in Laval. Thinks the game well but lacks the skills to execute on his assessments but he tries.

Overall a good tournament, which is a change from what we’re used to. Normally we get spanked and lose one or two players to injuries. Now they’ll have to show what they can do during the main camp.

Trudeau has really impressed me so far, he’s like a player/coach on the ice. He’s constantly directing play, initiating changes and making intelligent decisions. Clearly a high IQ player, which should translate to a solid career as an effective player who plays within his limitations.

Reinbacher was extremely cautious, you could see that he didn’t want to make any mistakes, but still made some nice plays defensively and moved the puck well. He will improve as he develops confidence.

Mailloux is feast or famine. Has all the offensive tools you could ever want, and his wrist shot is at an elite level already. Good size and speed, he is a force out there when he’s “on.” Defensively, he is below average. He has improved, but that will have to be the focus of his development moving forward. You can teach defense though, and playing time will only help - you can’t teach experience.

Struble is another guy who I think could be a solid NHL player. He has a controlled nastiness to his game that I like, and has the size and muscle to back it up. He enjoys separating the man from the puck, but seems to be focusing on not running around trying for the hit as often. Moves the puck surprisingly well.

Up front isn’t as rosy.

Joshua Roy will be a Hab, probably after a year in the AHL. He plays a professional style game, and has worked hard on his skating and attitude which were his main areas of question. Very smart player that usually has both his stick and body in the right place. Plays well along the boards and should be a nice complementary winger that can play up and down the lineup.

Sean Farrell - I just don’t see it happening from what he’s shown to date. He’s small, and avoids most physical battles, and we have a ton of those types already. Has shown flashes of great vision and puck handling abilities but has always left me wanting more. He’s obviously still adjusting to the pro game and different style of hockey, but will need to improve dramatically to be a consistent presence in the NHL.

Owen Beck had a tough game today, but that happens. He has shown himself to be an excellent two way center, and you can see that he is a highly intelligent player. I consider him to be one of our most pro-ready players, and see him being an elite third line center when we are contending for cups.

Florian Xhekaj. Do not sleep on Wifi’s little brother. The same intense desire to succeed is there, and he showed that he has worked just as hard to improve his overall game, while still being the physically imposing forward that got him drafted. Like his older brother, there is talent there, and there is a lot of nasty. And I am a big fan of how he served notice of that to the Sens today. I think we got a real steal with this guy.

These were the guys that stood out to me today for both good and bad reasons.

F. Mesar - He needs to figure out how to be more useful when the opponent has the puck - If he can steal the puck at least 1-2 times from the opponent per game he will be much more noticeable. Currently he just skates around and hopes someone else passes him the puck.

There's hockey sense away from the puck issues there for sure. He can be pretty invisible at times, and it's not laziness.
