I am okay if Asham is suspended for some games this season. The point of that signing was to add grit to the line-up. Of course I don't condone super dirty play, but I would rather this team be the aggressor than the opposite.
Asham has been suspended once in his career.

Asham is one of those players I hate unless he's on my team.

/although I'm worried he'll take dumb penalties, but he's a tough sob!

no no there's a tentative agreement...it sounds like it will ratify without any problems and training camp will be opening by this weekend at the latest. This is just what I gather from the multiple reports out there.

The players or owners could still vote it down. I think that's quite unlikely to happen, but it is a possibility.

I tend to think that the owners and players pretty much gave Bettman and Fehr the power to decide when a deal is done so it'd be pretty wildly surprising if it was voted down, but I could see Jacobs being a giant dick

It won't be voted down. It's just a formality at this point.

Could you imagine the fan and media backlash on the side that votes it down?

If it got voted down, Bettman would have to go into hiding along with the other owners. I truly believe he'd need security guards. Especially when you see the players skating together, wearing their team's gear. The owners and bettman would hands down look like the bad guys.

NHL teams told they remain in lockout mode until CBA is ratified. Union\league are chewing on transition rules. Some gm's annoyed at pace.

so can they still vote and both agree to it and still play while its being ratified or are we just going to have no camp at all?

The Flyers are banged up bad:

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
the Flyers defense is already suspect. If Meszaros can't start season, they are in BIG trouble. (cont)

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Meszaros: "Sometimes, I am really sore and I can’t push off. I’m still weak [in heel]. It’s a matter of time before I get my strength back"

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Can U play right now? "I don't know," Meszaros replied. "It's tough to say."

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Holmgren expressed concern about Briere; thinks Meszaros may need to get over "mental" hump. Needs more info from docs

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Briere has a wrist injury suffered overseas ...

So, this **** could still backfire? As in the lockout could still happen? Nothing seems done, really?

neither side would let that happen at this point...but technically yes, the BOG or players could vote no to reject the deal and then the lockout is back on and season canceled.

one or both sides would be VILLIFIED if it was voted down, that won't happen.. though its sounding like there won't be a camp if it takes that long.

No chance it gets voted down, but with all the details and bureaucracy, the start of the season could potentially be pushed past the 19th if they don't speed things up

I think they will speed it up this week. Players are already on the ice for informal skates.

The Olympics will be another huge boost to ratings and sponsors will line up if another American hero emerges or if a gold medal goes to a promising U.S. squad.

Man, I stayed away from this board through the entire lockout because it was too painful for me to even think about hockey. Glad to be back.

I know. I just wouldn't be that upset if he was suspended for being overly aggressive at some point. Asham is very good at his role. People over look him and have for quite some time.
Yep, just pointing out that he's been effective being aggressive in the past without taking suspensions.

For information purposes when the @nhl board of gov meet this week the league requires 16 yes votes out of 30 to ratify the CBA.

Daren Millard ‏@darenmillard
I don't believe it will be a close vote

And this is from yesterday:

NHL pushing speedy process.NHLPA lawyers will be 110% sure the language that goes to paper accurately reflects what they agreed to.

This is why I don't think people should worry as much.

I don't think the players and the games have to wait for the transitioning rules to be clarified but I could be wrong. Could use RB's take on that.

the games don't have to wait IF both sides agree to that...95 the lockout ended with an agreement in principal but the cba wasn't officially signed till that summer. so they could have sunday morning said 'we have an agreement in principal, camps can open tomorrow while we finalize the details'...

but the level of distrust between the 2 sides is so high that neither will move forward until the finalized deal is in place.

Tsn is reporting that a 48 game season will begin on the 19th. Any chance there are teams that won't play that day? would hate to have to wait even one day longer.

Someone tweeted earlier today that not all teams would play opening night. Forget who.

I didn't think they would, but man that would kill me. Watching other teams play while waiting one more day for the Rangers. I know it is only one day, but it has already been too long.

btw, we better not play in Jersey's home opener. Really don't want to see them raising an ECF banner, had to experience that on my NHL13 season and it was not cool at all.
