We have 11M available even with Redden counting against the cap?

No, before counting against the Cap. Redden will count for $5.6m. Given that the roster is basically complete minus MDZ and a depth player or two, they're fine with having over $5m left to address those issues.

I've been seeing on twitter everywhere from 4 to 7 each within the division. Best to just wait for word directly from the NHL.

7 games x 4 other teams in your division - 28 Games
1 Home and Away against 10 teams in the other two divisions in your conference - 20 Games

Total - 48 Games, all intra conference.

That's supposed to be the schedule, with opening night on January 19. We'll find out pretty soon if that's the case.

I don't like that 48 game schedule, Playing the Pens, Flyers, Devils 7 times is gonna be tough not to mention the Islanders should be improved to. The 50 game schedule could look like this

5x against your division 20 games total
the remaining 10 teams you play them 3 x and that is 30 games for a total of 50

Yeah, the Southeast division would see some standings inflation.

We get to watch the Rangers play the Isles/Pens/Flyers/Devils a total of 28 times in the regular season. Out of 48 games.

It's gonna be a wacky season.

You'll need to be ready to play from the get go. Not much time to recover from a bad start/injur bug.

That would work too. More balanced...but less even split of home/away games vs each opponent.

It won't matter. We have plenty of cap space this year to afford him. He won't play at all this year, either for us or for Hartford and may just opt to terminate his contract. But if he doesn't, he'll get bought out next summer and it won't count against the cap.

The Rangers can pay Redden his full remaining salary and tell him to stay home in British Columbia. The NHLPA and NHL can't force the Rangers to play him. Redden has too much money coming to him even with the compliance buyout to terminate his SPC. If you do the math,Redden is owed $6M of the $10M from 12-13 and 13-14. The buyout of $3,333,333 for 13-14. About $2.5M in 2013. The risk of injury and not being allowed to amnesty him is too great.

So, is the $64.3M cap enough to keep Gaby for next year?

Should be with a few smaller moves OR they go balzy and move Staal to the Canes for say Faulk ( who's not an RFA till 14/15), 1st and a solid prospect.

It would mean DZ needs to be the 2nd LD and McD the 1st.......then Girardi and Faulk for the top 4. Stralman is a better 3rd pair RD, would have to get a 3rd pairing LD though cause Skjei wont be ready in a yr.

Central is in same boat

Det/Chi/Stl/Nas with Jackets possibly better

Canucks playing vs NW already have clinched a postseason spot/#1 seed IMO

I had already resigned myself to thinking that there would be no NHL hockey being played this season. I'm pleasantly surprised that they finally worked something out, but I can't say I'm as enthusiastic as I usually am about hockey. This is a deal that should have been reached a few months ago.

The NHL is usually obsessed with its image and growing the game. Well, it's not easy to gain new fans when there is a lockout every 8 or so years. I love this sport, but the actions of the league, whether it be business-related or their indifference towards safety issues such as concussions, frustrate me to no end.

Minnesota improving as well as Edmonton? Colorado is young too. Almost made PO last season. Not the easiest division anymore. Nothing is a lock there.

we have rick nash on this team.

It feels like yesterday when everyone was waiting for Columbus to stop asking for too much for Nash and the party that ensued when we got him for that package. Wait until that happens at the deadline if the team wants to get someone big as a final piece like Iginla. This whole lockout killed those vibes of Nash. Now, we're a week away from seeing him in live action.

7 divisional games is ridiculous. Would screw the powerhouses (Atlantic, Central) and let even more terrible teams (SE) into the playoffs.

My idea is 46 games:
4 divisional = 16
2 conference = 20
1 against 10 from the west = 10

Can't wait until the home opener. The team getting announced at center ice before the game always makes the Garden get loud. Can't wait to hear Nash's name announced, place is gonna go bonkers!

That makes the most sense...but due to the shortened/condensed season they don't want the travel associated with inter-conference play.

those asking, Bill Daly confirmed you CANT use the compliance buyouts on players who have LTIR status, such as Chris Pronger.
