I do agree it is doable to move small parts and fit them under the cap for next yr. Just think they may entertain the idea. Was thinking when Staal is in the last yr of his deal we may see him moved to the Canes. It doesnt have to happen as maybe he loves NY and wants to stay longterm but having the other 3 Staals in Carolina may temp him eventually

We can worry about Marc Staal's future in a year or two. And I don't see why we would deal him to the Canes unless they gave us the best offer...assuming we were worried about being able to re-sign him. And why do so many people assume Marc even wants to jump ship to follow his brothers to Carolina? For all we know he loves being a Ranger and wants to remain one going forward. Again, not something I'm worried about for another year or two since he's signed through 2014/2015.

I'll stick my belief that Gabby will be signing for less than 7.5 next time

Unless i'm wrong, Gaborik, Callahan, and Lundqvist all hit UFA at the same time. We'd have to have all three of them take a paycut to stay, doesn't seem likely.

Not to mention Girardi, Stralman, Boyle, Pyatt, Rupp are up after that year. Don't see any way we'll be able to keep Henrik, Gaborik, Callahan and Girardi with the commitments to other players as well.

I'd love to be in that situation after having won a cup this year and/or next. It would make it a lot easier to go through a mini-rebuild of the team...perhaps moving some (older) assets for high picks and prospects to bring the cap hit and team age down for the next cycle.

I can't wait to see Brian Caravan, Mario Goobapick, Ryan MacDoneit, Steve Nash, and Henry Linsanity!

Just hope that Stool guy rebounds this year.

But how much of a raise can Lundqvist and Gaborik get? Lundqvist is making $6.875 million and Gaborik $7.5. Both are already among the highest paid players at their position.

I could see Lundqvist going to $7 but Gaborik coming down to around $6-6.75.

Callahan will go up to $5.5-6 millio on a long term deal.

Remember the cap will more then likely go up from the $64.3 t will be at.

IMO neither will get raises. They'll both be 32 and would be lucky to get comparable deals to what they are on now.

I think with Gabby it all comes down to the money vs. staying in New York. If he doesn't take a lesser offer from us, I could see him getting paid by a team who needs someone like him/will be willing to take a gamble. Sather has been behaving as of late, so I hope he doesn't get us back into a mess, especially with an injury prone player.

7 divisional games is ridiculous. Would screw the powerhouses (Atlantic, Central) and let even more terrible teams (SE) into the playoffs.

My idea is 46 games:
4 divisional = 16
2 conference = 20
1 against 10 from the west = 10

I would have preferred this:

5 divisional = 20
2 conference = 20
8 western conference = 8

total 48.

I would bet Henrik would be willing to stay on a 5 year, 27-32 million dollar extension rather than get the 5 years, 35 mil he might get elsewhere.

i think the rangers will be able to keep the team together for a while. players will have to start taking less with the new system. it was wise, in retrospect, not to sign del zotto before the lockout.

He just bought a huge apartment in NYC, and loves the city. That's why I'm confident he'll take a paycut.

Who do I thank for seeing the Rangers this year? I am so happy hockey is back. I can't bring myself to thank those involved in ending this thing. I guess I'll just kiss my lucky stars.

I was getting tired of watching the Knicks.

Scot Beckenbaugh.

So based on "everything" we know so far..

Which team is struggling with this new deal the most??

Which team has to cut the most fat to Get under the cap and so on..

Of the top of my head, in a worse spot than us are

Bruins, Flyers, Sharks, Vancouver?, possibly the Pens

Nobody this year IMO
Next year will be a bit of a challenge for a few teams, including ourselves if we want to keep core and resign the RFAS

Who knows what will happend with the cap though going forward.

In a time of horrible financial climate and so forth, the cap has constantly gone up year after year after year. I have no doubt what-so-ever that the cap would have kept going up like that without this darn lockout. But who knows now how much of a hit the league has taken. There are plenty of people out there saying they won't spend as much and so forth.

In the end, I don't think it will be that bad and I think the cap will keep going up over say a 5 year period. That could give us room. But who knows.
