rip to the legend.

this might be an opinion that not many share, but given his importance to the history of the game, the NHL should retire his number. what he endured on the ice at the hands of his colleagues and how gracefully he handled the burden should be remembered always.

the game is better because of him.

I have been fortunate to watch Borje Salming play in the Gardens in a Leafs uniform. He was one of my favourite Leaf players growing up. My condolences to his family and very close friends

I don't know and don't feel like i can speak for NHL!... but as a Swede myself i think number #21 should be retired in Tre Kronor and in SHL

agreed! he wasnt the most talented swede to ever play, but he was the most important and most impactful.
the reason we were able to see sundin and lidstrom and forsberg and the sedins and alfredsson and all the naslunds etc etc. sweden must be pretty sad today :(

Truly saddened by hearing this news , he was one of my childhood hero’s , Rest In Peace and you will not be forgotten .

Although we all knew this was coming, it is still shocking and heartbreaking news!

Börje was a warrior for our Leafs. He played through quite a lot of abuse when he came over to play for our Leafs. His courage and strength is unparalleled IMHO!

My condolences to his family and friends, including all his former teammates!

RIP Börje, and thank you for your service to our Leafs. 😭

Living in Calgary at the time when electric Avenue was the big post game party spot. On a particular night when the leafs were in town quite a few of the boys came to wet their whistle. I believe is was the bar Electric Ave or maybe Mad Trappers (there were so many).
Anyway exciting to see a half dozen of the boys. Borje was one of them along with Rick Vaive, Jim Korn to name a few.
Borje was a lady's man believe it or not. Surrounded by many a young lady with a drink in each hand (no doubt because many were buying him drinks).
Not loud, crude or annoying in the least. Just enjoying a beverage or two with the mates.
I was certainly in my glory as this was my childhood team in town and to be rubbing elbows with them was certainly a treat. Great memory of Borje!

Awful news. RIP to a true great man and player. Celeb news don’t usually hit home for me but this one that truly does sadden me for someone I don’t know personally or have ever met.

Forgot my phone today and came home to this. I watched the tribute again and ingrained in my mind was seeing Sittler and his close buddy Borje crying during the ceremony recently. I had tears then and have tears now. Truly heartbreaking for a true warrior. RIP Borje.

I wake up most mornings, get my coffee, and log in here to find out the latest on my team. This morn was a kick in the nuts. I'm glad Borje didn't suffer long, he was a man who liked to control the events on the ice, and I'm sure this f***ing disease challenged him as much because it took away 'control' as much as it forced him to face mortality. You were a special person Mr. Salming, and you will be missed. RIP.

It would be very nice if (Bobby Clark, Dornhoefer, Schultz, Barber, and the rest of the Broad Street Bullies) were to come out and say some nice words about BJ. They more than any other team took liberties with our Borje. RIP BJ ❤

Seeing Sittler tear up as he raised Salming's hand last week really struck me. I am happy he heard the roar of the Maple Leafs fans one more time before he passed away. A pure Viking.

I find it so odd that the Broad Street Bullies era of the Philadelphia Flyers could play such a monstrous brand of thug hockey, and then decades later come out and pay tribute to someone they tried to bully but couldn't.
