When i was a 11 or 12 yrs old, I saw Borje Salming in a Bruno Foods in Etobicoke @ royal york and dundas. I said hello to him in one of the aisles of the store and he said hello back. That is my encounter with Salming. RIP Borje Salming.

My condolences to the family of Borje Salming and to Leaf fans who were blessed by this great player's legacy.

I remember him being one of those guys I just hated seeing my boys play against. It's been years since I recall those days, but he and guys like LaFleur came to mind when I thought of other players outside our organization I wish we had on our side.

Here's to great men gone too soon. 🍻

When he got sick he did not hide away, no he showed himself in the most fragile way in the most public way. He knew and we knew it wasn't long. Not many have the courage and strength to do just that. Then he was gone. He came because he wanted to say goodbye.

Farväl Börje, Goodbye King. My hero.

I'm really not a Leafs fan even though two of of my favorite NHL swedes played there but I take comfort here right now since I have a real hard time with the way we lost Börje and that horrible sickness. It's nice to see that you remember him and gave him the love and respect he deserved. It was really hard seeing him be the face of this sickness and not hide away. I try to stay away from the images since he told the public and want to remember him as the strong and tough man he was and what a fantastic person he was.

Even at his sickest point he told us that he tought of us.. WE thought of him..

He was just a fantastic person and it breaks my heart how he went away.

Wow this broke my heart. Seeing him honoured earlier this month was one of the most tear jerking moments of my life. One of the moments I was truly proud to be a member of Leafs Nation. I gave him a standing ovation in my room. Seeing him and Darryl break down, seeing Salming need assistance raising his one arm, but still able to get the other up on his own, witnessing him just scream because that crowd filled him with such raw emotion and there wasn't anything else he could do. I'll never forget those moments. I'm glad he is at peace, and I just wish our team could bring home the cup for these Legends.

Rest in peace Börje Salming. and thank you for the impact you had on the game and for all the assistance you gave your fellow countrymen when they headed for the NHL.

agreed! he wasnt the most talented swede to ever play, but he was the most important and most impactful.
the reason we were able to see sundin and lidstrom and forsberg and the sedins and alfredsson and all the naslunds etc etc. sweden must be pretty sad today :(
We are devestated here!... it's a hugh loss for Swedish hockey... A true legend of it's own I would even call him a national treasure... and i hope #21 will be retired in SHL and Tre Kronor for what he did for Swedish hockey.

Here is a documentary of Salming!

Toronto is an incredibly classy club and organisation, I am deeply impressed. The way Salming was celebrated is simply outstanding.

Spot on, fully agree

They had Borje Saming's banner lowered at Scotiabank during the Arkell's concert tonight.

Going to be an emotional night at the rink tomorrow.

Beautiful comment. You are definitely an original Sherwood pmp with your name on the stick and the knob tapped heavily.

While being Canadian and a proud patriot, it was Borje Salming during the 1970's after joining the Leafs that had me cheering as my backup up Country internationally for Sweden..

I remember during the 1976 Canada Cup while Darryl Sittler was scoring the winning goal for Canada

I was also following Borje and Team Sweden as he played with his brother Stig in that tournament.

The brothers Börje Salming & Stig Salming playing for Sweden in 1976. Borje was the only Non Canadian player that played for my Leafs All-time that had me supporting him and his country internationally, cheering on team Sweden to do well because of my immense respect for Borje against any nation but Canada.

Borje Salming autographed hockey card proudly in my collection.

What an amazing hockey player and man, easily one of my top 5 Maple Leafs of All-time and his position is locked in to remain there forever in my heart.

Man I loved watching him play !!! .. Effortless skater and fearless hockey player..

So sad to see him gone.

You got some little treasure right there!

Many years ago I got myself a Leafs Salming replica jersey and I always had in the back of my mind to ask him to sign it for me at some point. Börjes ex. wife was from a village not far from where I live and as he was visiting these parts every now and then, I figured I would get it done some day. Then just this spring it was too late. I'm not too sad about the missed autograph as much as the missed opportunity to meet and have a few words with him.

Just amazing!!!

When you say he was one of your 2 favorite swedes who the other one?

Thinking of Salming & Hammerstrom (who had so much skill but didn't have Salmings courage. Rem Ballard saying he could go into the corner with 2 eggs in his pocket and come out without them broken?) they also remind me of 2 other swedes who leafs tried to sign when they left the WHA(after playing with Bobby Hull) Winnipeg Jets). Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson. So many good memories

For those who would like to see it

Thank you sir fir sharing that
