Just amazing!!!

When you say he was one of your 2 favorite swedes who the other one?

Thinking of Salming & Hammerstrom (who had so much skill but didn't have Salmings courage. Rem Ballard saying he could go into the corner with 2 eggs in his pocket and come out without them broken?) they also remind me of 2 other swedes who leafs tried to sign when they left the WHA(after playing with Bobby Hull) Winnipeg Jets). Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson. So many good memories

Thank you sir fir sharing that

The other one for the leafs was Mats Sundin.
Others I hold as my favorites are Håkan Loob, Lidström and Peter Forsberg.
Loob for his fantastic ability to score, Lidström since he was so damn perfect in everything he did and Forsberg, the only one that can give Salming a run for the most competetive mindset. I loved watching Forsberg when he was playing bad and he just went out a whole shift and just ran over people just go get himself into the game.

The worst an opponent could do when Peter was having a bad game was to piss him off..

I'm kind of surprised this thread is only 10 pages. It was a while ago when he played for us though so I guess it's understandable. What a player, what a man. He truly was one of a kind!
I had to go back a few pages to find it — the main RIP thread seemed to be combined with a GDT, so this was the best ‘pure’ thread I saw to bump. Beautiful vid, seemed like a universally well respected and loved gent.

It was fantastic that we could do this for Borjes brother Stig Salming as well, he was already in the rafters winning 6 swedish championships with Brynäs and now he and Borje are together there forever!

Stig Salming lost his wife to cancer, Borje and then their mother passed away all within 14 months, so to see him incredible proud today was very special!

As you Borjes father died when Borje was very young so Stig as his big brother had to care for Borje extra much! They both left the north of sweden and Kiruna for Gävle and Brynäs IF. Borje moved in with his big brother who was already there when he was signed by Brynäs course :)

You can see them at the start of this clip:

Note: Stig Salming was called "Stygge Salming" in sweden because he was so brutal punishing other teams players, one of the toughest players to ever play in swedish hockey!

But now when he turned 75 he received a balloon with "Snälla Salming" which means "Kind Salming".

He may no longer have his wife, Borje or his mother, but he has the Brynäs and Toronto extended family to support him! The Salmings are one of a kind!

The Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni Team Vs Team Sweden Veterans game with Borje Salmings jersey retirement ceremony can now be seen fully on youtube thanks to a fellow swede
😎
Sundin still looks like a BEAST and even Jonas Hoglund
😉
The ovations Salming gets is amazing, but can not beat the Toronto treatment, but almost
🙂

Darryl Sittler is such a class act, my respect for him has grown even more
👍
And obviously the swedish crowd loved him as well
👌
