Below is a recent link in the History section of HFboards, about Sweden celebrating "100 years of ice hockey".
All time All Star Team: Lundqvist --- Lidström - Salming --- Sundin - Forsberg - Loob Greatest moment in Swedish hockey history: Salming standing ovation during 1976 Canada Cup.
Thank you Toronto fans for the appreciation he received back then, and last weeks again receiving.
Are there any people here who was at any of those 1976 Canada Cup games?
Here are some notes from tonight's televised event "100 years of Swedish hockey". Probably the most emotional sports event I've ever watched. "Every" great Swedish player alive was there (except current NHLers of course). Börje Salming was enormously celebrated. Basically every player there...
Can't believe I am as sad as I am. This is just devastating news. Will have some old buddies over on Saturday to watch the game and have multiple drinks in his honour.
He was a giant in this organization
As a boy in the '70's all anyone talked about was Bobby Orr,Brad Park or Denis Potvin. Borje Salming was a great D-man,offensive player and tough as nails customer who had to overcome so much hatred, adversity and prejudice. He did all. I did not like the Leafs but admired Salming the greatest Swedish D-man and one of the Top D-men All-Time in NHL history. RIP Borje
May God receive you into paradise Borje. You were one of my childhood heros along with DS27. Easily top two Dmen in the history of the Blue and White. Class act, never surrender warrior! I wish we had a couple of you today.......the cup would be ar our fingertips.
I watched this guy many a times play & he was some player .Never met him but by all accounts a true gentlemen.Very sad to hear about his passing today but really happy the Leafs gave him that honor at Hall of Fame weekend..They got it right .Rip Borje & thanks for the memories
Met him at an autograph signing at the opening of Vaughn Mills Mall. Told him he was the best Leaf dman I had ever seen and shook his hand. We lost a great Leaf today but team Heaven just got a great dman. RIP King.
