There's a really big gap between Rielly's comparables right now...
Group 1:
- Werenski 9.583m X6 (extension) (25-30)
- Jones 9.5m X8 (extension) (28-35)
- Nurse 9.25m X8 (extension) (27-34)
- Josi 9.059m X8 (extension) (30-37)
- Makar 9m X6 (extension) (22-27)
- Hamilton 9m X7 (Free Agent) (28-34)
- Pietrangelo 8.8m X7 (Free Agent) (30-36)
- Heiskanen 8.45m X8 (extension) (22-29)
Group 2:
- Parayko 6.5m X8 (extension) (29-36)
- Krug 6.5m X7 (Free Agent) (29-35)
- Ekholm 6.25m X4 (extension) (32-35)
- Petry 6.25m X4 (extension) (33-36)
- Pulock <6m X8 (extension) (27-34)
- Pionk 5.875m X4 (extension) (26-29)
- Pelech 5.75m X8 (extension) (27-34)
Some of these guys could have made a lot more if they went fishing for money.
On Rielly's own team, there's Muzzin @5.875m & Brodie @5m. He is their #1D but he's not a few million better than Muzz & Brodie.
Back in 2018 Ryan Ellis had similar numbers to Rielly; he signed 6.25m X8 (28-35). Ellis definitely took a 'hometown discount' but that is a very fair comparable, just not recent enough.
If you take Rielly's last 2 seasons & Ellis' 2 seasons prior to his extension:
Rielly: 102-8-54-62 (0.61pts/gp) (23:54 per gp)
Ellis: 115-25-45-70 (0.61pts/gp) (23:44 per gp)
Ellis at the time, was also a bigger factor on the penalty kill, & in the playoffs; he had just come off a cup final run with the Preds. He however was not a #1 on his own team. Rielly also has a Norris candidate year under his belt as well (2018-2019), Ellis does not.
Rielly is definitely closer to the bottom group (group 2) than the top group (group 1). Also seems to be a bit of a biased though towards offensive dmen getting paid.
